We’ve been having some ferocious weather today: a tornado watch, severe thunderstorms with warnings of flash floods and hail, a tornado warning and another tornado warning.
We got some small pea sized hail, not the ping pong ball that was suggested.

After the tornado warning expired at 3:15 PM, I looked out the front window. Our front yard was flooded! It is a very good thing the house is up on the hill!
Nox desperately wanted out, so we let her out in the front by the house. This is the least wet part of the yard. After Nox made her pee stop, we put her back inside.
Bruce and I walked down the driveway to the edge of the flooded driveway.

The water was running over the road to the north of us. Water was on the road on the side next to us, just to the south of us. We could see the water being splashed up as the cars went past.
The birds were at the feeders during the brief break in the rain. It started raining again. One bird took shelter under the porch.

It stopped raining for a bit and we went back out. The water had gotten lower.

We looked out a bit later and realized we had our driveway again and most of the floodwaters were gone.

It may flood again since we are getting more rain.
Dang! Is all the work you’ve done recently safe from the flood waters?

Mostly. We aren’t sure about the holes we filled in with rocks and dirt. That could be washed away. The tiny pecans didn’t get flooded, which was a relief.

Does Nox like water? My Cairn boys would have played in those “puddles”. 😆

Nox doesn’t like moving water. We took her to the beach a few times. She enjoys the sand and the puddles left behind, but she didn’t like the waves after experiencing them once. We kept her away from the fast running floodwaters as we weren’t sure if she might decide to investigate. The water looked still in parts and she could’ve thought that was okay.

This looks more like our yards in Texas when it flooded. It has taken us 21 years to learn to manage water in Mississippi.

I was glad our neighbor to the south warned us the front yard did flood occasionally. Seeing it in person was very different!

Wow! I am glad it wasn’t worse.

Same here. I am glad I hadn’t planted anything in the lower yard yet.

We are supposed to get this rain this afternoon in Florida but it will have weakened by then passing over the Gulf or so they say.

It was a really ferocious storm here. I hope you remain safe.

I am glad you have good enough drainage for the waters to recede so quickly!

We were relieved at how quickly the water drained. Last night around 9, we discovered our front yard flooded again. The rain just kept falling.

Is it soaking into the ground, for the crops and the groundwater? That’s a good thing. If it’s all running off into the creeks/rivers/ocean, not so much!

Based on our measurements, we got 6” of rain. While the ground was soaked and incredibly soppy, it could only absorb so much. A lot of that rain water ran off into the nearby creek which would take it into the Tennessee River. Our neighbor’s cow pasture was flooded as well.

We were wondering how bad it was at your place. Just stay safe.

We were lucky and didn’t have any tornados here this time. The flooding was impressive to see, but we are up on a hill, so the waters weren’t close to the house.

That’s good to hear.

Wow that is a lot of water. Did you know that your property was in a potential flooding area? I bet you were relieved that the water receded quickly.

We thought it might be a chance the front would flood since there is a creek that cuts through a corner of the property and feeds into the ditch. This runs into the larger creek about 500 to 600 feet to the south of our driveway.

OH NO!!! I hope it cleared up quickly.

It did clear away fairly quickly. The flood washed a lot of the gravel into the grass. We had more rain later that night and the flood washed back, just not as deep.
