April 14, 2026
On Friday (April 10), I finished up our income taxes for the feds and state. Normally, I finish taxes much earlier, but this year I had two Scheduled K forms to include. These forms often come a week or two before the tax filing deadline of April 15.
I prepared everything, except the entries for the Schedule K forms, well ahead of time. (Schedule Ks are for partnerships, LLCs, and trusts. They may also include other types of entities.)
I spent some time looking up the meaning for terms and which line on the Schedule K that I should enter into Turbo Tax.
I was able to complete and file the Federal Tax Return electronically.
The kicker came when I went to file my State Tax Return. Due to some quirky law, Alabama wouldn’t accept a tax return with a loss on one of the forms.
I would have to print out the State Tax Forms and mail them. Really? Yes, really. Ugh.
We don’t have a printer and needed to use the library’s printer to print the tax forms. It was too late to go to the library and get the forms printed. The local library closes at 5pm on Friday and remains closed until 9 am on Monday.
