Printing and Mailing the State Tax Forms

April 17, 2026

On Monday (April 13), I loaded the state tax forms onto a USB Drive. Bruce addressed the envelope to the Alabama State Revenue Department.

We went to the library to print the tax forms. I was happy to find the library gives a discount for printing tax forms. We had 15 pages of forms to print, so we saved half the cost of printing! Some forms had to be printed in landscape format. Even printing the forms was a hassle. Ugh, taxes!

We walked to the post office from the library. We walked past the Muscle Shoals City Hall.

The postal worker weighed the stuffed envelope. It cost about three stamps. At least we are getting a refund, otherwise, it would be insult to injury to have to pay to send in forms and a check.

To celebrate being done with the taxes, we went to eat lunch at The Pie Factory. I was so disappointed by the service and the pizza. The service was slow and the pizza was warm, not hot. This is the second bad experience I’ve had with this restaurant. Since they are so highly rated, I wanted to give them a second chance. We won’t be back.

The pizza made my gallbladder very unhappy and it complained bitterly. I had a vegetarian pizza thinking it would be safe since it wouldn’t have a lot of fat. I should’ve thought that one through. Bruce wanted to stop at Rural King and look at tractors, I told him I needed to get home.

Once home, Bruce reminded me I needed to call the surgeon’s office to schedule my gallbladder removal. I got that sorted and read for a while. Reading is a great distraction for me.

Once I felt better, we walked around Blackberry Homestead.

The sunset was captivating.

Oddly, we haven’t seen any fireflies since the first evening we saw them.

  1. Benjamin Franklin…”Nothing is certain except death and taxes.” May the first mentioned wait for a considerable number of years. Thankfully, we enter our tax details online, no writing forms, no posting etc. Actually, there is no need to do anything re taxes unless there is a change of circumstances which in our case means making a claim against medical expenses as these are allowed as a claim against tax and a refund.

    1. My federal tax forms can all be entered online. Normally, the state tax forms can be entered online, but Alabama has a weird twist about certain losses. The forms have to be mailed in.

The ideas that you don’t have to do anything unless there is a change of circumstances sound like a happy dream to me.

  2. I heard postage rates will be going up to $.82 in July and parcel shipping will go up sooner. It seems like first class postage goes up much more frequently these days. Glad I bought a book of 100 from Costco the other day! Here’s hoping your refund comes soon.

    1. I was so glad to be done with taxes. The relief was great, even though I was so annoyed I couldn’t file online. I really love the freedom stamps and buying them at Costco.
