Planting Seeds While Bruce Assembles a Low Garden Bed

April 19, 2026

On April 15 (Wednesday), Bruce continued assembling a short garden bed. I removed weeds from a tall garden bed to get it ready for more dirt. Using my three 5-gallon buckets in my wagon method, I topped the garden bed with Bama Dirt Pro Mix. After I finished adding dirt to the bed, Bruce topped the bed with Lowe’s dirt.

There was a pretty sunset.

On April 16 (Thursday), I planted more seeds, basil and bush beans, on the east and west of tomato plants. Bruce finished assembling the short garden bed. It needs to be filled with dirt now.

Bruce dumped 5-gallon buckets of dirt to hold the bed in place. Where there wasn’t any dirt added, the bed leans. Bruce put in dirt before I noticed what he was doing. No cardboard, no chicken wire, will it make a difference in keeping the weeds and pests out? It is too late to go back and fix it. I can put cardboard at the end and the side with no dirt.

I was excited to see some pea flowers.

Some pictures from around Blackberry Homestead.

While I was writing a post on Wednesday (April 15), this popped up.

I was very surprised to get this pop-up.
