On Friday (August 22), Bruce and I started packing to go to Jekyll Island, Georgia to help out my father-in-law. He needs help while he recovers from his shoulder surgery.
In hopes of saving my bucket garden, I brought all the peppers inside and watered them. I hope this will save them, as we will be gone for two weeks. If I left them outside, I was afraid the buckets would dry out and the peppers would die.
I bathed Nox and washed her blanket.

We loaded almost everything we were taking into the truck. This would allow us to take care of Nox in the morning, load a few additional items, and leave.
I picked some basil leaves and peppers to bring.
We let our neighbors know we would be gone for two weeks.
On Saturday (August 23), we got up, gave Nox her pills, and walked her. I packed a cooler with items that would spoil if we left them. I also brought sheep and goat cheeses for Bruce. Bruce turned off the
We thought it would be best to avoid driving through Atlanta, GA, since Atlanta traffic can be awful. Google claimed taking the back roads would add an extra 30 minutes to our trip. If we got caught in a traffic jam in Atlanta, it could add more than 30 minutes to the trip. Sometimes a little extra time makes for a smoother journey!
We headed down to AL-157, took it to I-65, and took I-65 to I-85. From I-85, we took AL-110 to US-82 in Union Springs, AL. We drove on US-82 all the way to the coast. We turned onto GA-520 (the causeway to Jekyll) and arrived at my father-in-law’s house at 7:40 PM.

As we got closer to the coast, we had rain, lots of rain. Sometimes, it was a light rain, other times, it was a downpour. Luckily, it wasn’t raining when we arrived.
Nox was happy to get out of the truck and stretch. She seemed to remember my father-in-law and the house. It was good to see my father-in-law looking well.
As we ate supper, the rain started pouring down. When we got a break in the rain, I brought all the suitcases inside. It started raining again not too long afterwards.
It was nice to go to sleep to the sound of rain on the roof.
This morning, the sun was shining in blue skies.
As I was getting dressed this morning, a picture caught my eye. I admired it, looked at the artist’s signature, and realized it was something I had drawn 35 years ago!

I would draw pictures on blank card stock to make my own thank-you notes or birthday cards. My mother-in-law framed the picture on the card.
Today, I finished a picture I started in 2019. Once a month, several women at work would eat lunch together and work on craft projects. I had most of the dragonfly finished. One wing needed to be completed and I added the chicory bloom.

It was nice to complete this drawing.
While unloading the dishwasher, I noticed several of the dishwasher arm spray holes were clogged. Bruce got busy unclogging them.
What a compliment to admire your own artwork! I hope you were inordinately pleased.

That is amusing, too.

Loved the two drawings. Rain on the roof would be welcome here, too! I hope you have a good visit and it helps with the healing time for your father-in-law.

Thanks! We’ve gotten some rain recently. It is supposed to cool off at home next week, 80s for the highs instead of high 90s.
My father-in-law does seem to enjoy my cooking. I made buttermilk biscuits, fried eggs, and extra crispy bacon for Sunday breakfast today. It was something different for him. He enjoyed the marmalade I set out on the biscuits. His kids make pancakes for Sunday breakfast when they come.
