Buying Dirt and Registering RV in Alabama

February 11, 2025

On Sunday (February 9), we drove to Lowe’s and bought a cubic yard of topsoil. We had it loaded into the truck bed by a Lowe’s employee. When we arrived at the house, Bruce drove the truck next to the last tall bed. We filled one tall bed with the dirt. The truck left some ruts as the ground was a bit wet.

On Monday (February 10), Bruce called the veterinarian and left a message with the front desk. The veterinarian had diagnosed Nox with a slightly enlarged liver. She wanted us to give Nox a liver supplement to help her liver.

Poor little Nox wasn’t adjusting to her new medicine. She had been throwing up every other day and then honking afterwards. The honking is terrible. She is just so miserable.

While we waited for the veterinarian to call us back, we decided to go to the county courthouse and get the RV titled and registered in Alabama.

It took a while since they had to determine the value of the RV.

Once done, we had our new tag and the application for the Alabama title. The title will arrive in the mail soon.

Since we were so close to Tuscumbia Spring Park, we went to see the waterfall.

We feed the ducks from the $.25 feed machines. As we were feeding the ducks, one of my hands was down. I felt a bit of pressure on my finger and looked down, the male Muscovy duck had nipped me! It wanted food!

When walking back to the truck, the fountain was pretty to watch.

We drove to Lowe’s and bought a pallet of topsoil, which was 50 bags. The bags were two cubic feet each. We bought a pole to hang two bird feeders from.

While in Lowe’s, the veterinarian call back. She wanted us to try anti-nausea medication for Nox. She also was going to find a liver supplement that might work better for Nox. Their office was about to close, so we couldn’t get the medicine then, but we agreed to go pick it up in the morning.

When we got home, Bruce drove the truck to the tall garden beds. He unloaded the bags, put them into the beds against the wall and cut them open. I dumped the bags out into the beds. We worked together very well to get this done.

I gathered up the empty bags and tossed them into the bed of the pickup.

The truck left ruts in the yard again. It wasn’t as bad as before.

As Bruce was driving to the front yard, it started raining. We finished just in time!

Bruce was able to join the Zoom call with his family as they chatted with their dad. My father-in-law is using the walker for now. He does seem to be recovering well. On the 25th, after the CAT scan, we’ll know more.

Today, we drove in the rain to pick up Nox’s medicine. It kept raining all day; we had so much rain! The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for our area.

Here’s what the ditch by the road looked like today.

This is what it usually looks like.

Sometimes, the creek that feeds into the ditch will even be dry.

The driveway and backyard had some big puddles.

The swales had water behind them as well. There was a lot of water around the garden beds.

The veterinarian exchanged texts with Bruce today. We are going to split the liver supplement for Nox and give her half in the morning and half in the evening. Hopefully, this will reduce her nausea and she won’t have to take the anti-nausea medication.

Today was a great day to make bread. I added beet root powder to see if it would be pink inside.

The raw dough was a lovely dark pink. The baked bread was brown inside, not pink or white. It tastes great, but I didn’t get any beet flavor from it.

I’ll try to remember to take a picture of the cooked bread tomorrow and post it.

Tonight, we went out front to get the dog medicine from the truck. I noticed an envelope from UPS on the front porch. Bruce’s birth certificate had arrived!

Bruce can get now get his Alabama driver’s license. It also means his lost original birth certificate will now show up!

  1. I hope Nox does better with the change in the meds. You certainly got a lot done before the rain; I am impressed. The waterfall and park is beautiful and I really enjoyed seeing those pictures. It is also good to hear your FIL is better also. I have started looking at above ground containers, but I will start much smaller! Hope you don’t get too much rain. It rained all yesterday and most of today and has now started again. The back yard is more mud than anything unfortunately!

    1. It was a lot of work! It rained all last night and most of today. It is predicted to rain most of tomorrow as well. Our yard is also more mud than anything else right now.
