Finished Preparing Garden Beds for Dirt

January 25, 2025

On Thursday, (January 23), Bruce called Bama Dirt to find out when we would get our order. They apologized for not reaching out to us. They are waiting for the dirt to dry out and the compost to become less hot.

Yesterday (Friday, January 24), after breakfast, I decided the weather had warmed up enough I could do some outside tasks.

I put leaves in the last big tall Birdies garden bed. All the wood is now covered.

Beds Ready for Dirt

I spent some time picking up branches and putting them into our dead hedge. I raked up the small branches left from cutting down the pine branches.

Today, I dug a hole for a dog waste disposal. We have a lid for the hole. We now have a scoop, so we don’t have to use doggie bags to clean up after Nox.

I put the dirt in a five gallon bucket. I spread the dirt into three holes. We have so many holes in the yard. This is just barely getting stated in filling the holes.

I spent some time moving the leaves into a taller pile.

Nox wanted to go outside with me. She enjoyed the sun while I worked.

I took Nox inside and went to check the mailbox. My garden pens had arrived. When I got up to the porch, I saw another package.

When I came inside through the front door, Nox was staring out the back door, waiting for me. I called her name and petted her. She was clearly surprised and didn’t hear me come in through the front door.

The other box contained two bluebird houses and I’m going to do a separate post on them.

Nox decided it was nap time.

  1. Such a cutie!

How many different foods will you grow in those beds? How are you planning to preserve them? Do you mostly can, dry or freeze? With that many beds, you two will hardly need to go to the store!
