Regular Living Task – Washing Nox and Her Bedding

February 13, 2024

The other day, the weather warmed up enough to wash Nox. She had been needing a bath for a while, but we don’t like wash her when it is cold. We don’t like her to be wet in the cold. Seeing her shivering from the cold worries us.

I first washed Nox’s blankets in the morning. When the day reached the warmest temperature, it was time to wash Nox.

To wash Nox, I get everything ready first. I put the dog towels on the closed toilet lid. I put the dog shampoo in the shower, on the floor so I can easily reach it. I open the shampoo bottle so I don’t have to struggle with it while Nox looks wet and unhappy.

With the towels and shampoo set, I take the shower head down and turn on the water to a warm temperature. When the water has warmed up, I get Nox and it is time for her to become a clean dog.

I carefully spray Nox down with the warm water on low. I don’t want to get water in her ears or eyes. I then pour shampoo in my hand and gently rub it all over Nox. After the shampoo, it’s time for the rinse. The rinse is another careful spray to remove the suds from her head and body.

After the rinse, I get Nox to shake her body in the shower. (We taught Nox to shake her body when we say shake. We didn’t teach her to shake hands.) This gets a lot of the water off of her. I get her to shake twice and then I start drying her off with a dog towel.

I get her to shake again and then dry her with another dog towel. For such a small dog, her fur absorbs enough water to wet down a couple of towels.

Once Nox is mostly dry, I wrap her up in another dog towel so she can stay warm and dry off.

I give her a Milk Bone Mini treat for being such a good dog. She snuggles down into the towel and rests.

After an hour, Nox crawled out of the towel and was ready to do Nox things.

I gathered up all the dog towels and washed and dried them.

While I cleaned dog hair from the washer and dryer between washing and drying each blanket, after washing and drying the dog towels, I do a thorough cleaning of both the washer and dryer.

  1. Ooh, she reminds me of my old dog Harry. He never liked getting cold either so I always had to make sure his bath was warm and I ruffled him dry properly afterwards. So cute. 🐾💙

    1. She really hates the hairdryer, so we usually just towel her dry. If it is cold and she has to have bath, I will dry her with the hairdryer after all the toweling dry.
