Regular Living Task – Eye Doctor Visit and New Tires for Truck

January 21, 2024

After the dealer told us we needed new tires, Bruce did a lot of research to determine the best tires to put on the truck. He didn’t want to continue to put the less than great tires that were original equipment onto the truck. (Two tires threw belts, one shredded in a blow out, one tire lost sidewall rubber and one tore tread to the belts all before 30,000 miles.)

Bruce dropped me off at the eye doctor (ophthalmologist) on Friday (January 12) and took the truck to get two new tires. He had decided to get Michelins.

Everything Bruce read said to put new tires on the rear of the vehicle, if you weren’t replacing all the tires. He did some searching to find the reason; new tires are gripper and can cause the rear tires to spin out if the new tires are only placed in front. Bruce decided with twice the normal traction from the rear tires (duallies), he could just replace the bad front tires. He also considered that some of the rear tires were new.

While Bruce was getting the tires replaced, the eye doctor’s assistants did several tests on my eyes. When the eye doctor came in, he did some more tests and then told me that the nerves in my left eye are getting thinner. I have an appointment on Thursday for a field vision test.

Glaucoma is scary! I am glad it has been caught in the early stages so I won’t loose anymore vision (fingers crossed). The cataract in my right eye was slightly worse. At some point, I’ll need cataract surgery.

Bruce spent about $630 on the tires, taxes, and disposal fees.

New Michelin Tire

The truck rides a lot better with the Michelin tires! The ride is so smooth.

    1. I had been on eye drops, but my doctor said I was allergic. He also said my field vision test were good and my eye pressure’s was high normal. He took me off the drops since I was allergic to them. We talked two years ago about just keeping an eye on my nerves to see if there were any changes. I agreed and last year, there were no changes. This year, there are changes to the nerves, so my doctor will call with a plan of action after the field vision test.
