On December 2 (Saturday), Bruce and I headed over to the office with Nox. I planned to sit outside with Nox while Bruce paid for our second month at Trails End RV Park in Florida.
Along the way, Nox made a poop stop. After cleaning it up, Bruce headed back towards the RV to make a deposit in the dog waste station.
I continue walking Nox towards the office, knowing Bruce could easily catch up to us since Nox is so slow now. Nox and I walked along the tree bark trail leading to the office. Nox asked for a pickup at the end of the trail.
Bruce was just catching up to us when I realized I had ants biting my left hand. I shift Nox more to my right arm and Bruce helped get the ants off my hand. I moved Nox back to her normal carry position and more ants swarmed over my left hand.
I was being bitten and I was also worried about Nox being bitten. I put Nox down and Bruce grabbed her leash while I got the dozen or so bitting ants off my left hand.
I then sat down outside the office and really checked Nox over for ants. She never cried or acted upset, so I don’t believe she was bitten. One more ant fell from her leg onto mine, but I squished the ant before it could bite me.
The ants must’ve found my bare hand way more attractive than the furry dog leg.
I was relieved the ants weren’t fire ants, even though their bite was painful. I shudder to think what my hand would’ve looked like if it had been fire ants.
When we walked back to the RV, Bruce spotted the ant nest Nox walked through. It was at the edge of the tree bark towards the end of the trail.

Yikes, do you have diatomaceous earth or something safe that you could sprinkle on the nest?

I am going to talk to the park manager about the ants. It could be a child that gets into the ants next. I’m just glad they didn’t bite Nox.
She had a bad experience with ants when she was about a year old. She was trying to figure out what ants were doing and stuck her muzzle into the ants and found they tasted like ow as they bit her mouth.

Ouch! Geordie had a bad experience when he was little too. A piece of fried chicken had fallen out of someone’s trash, and he couldn’t help but give it a big sniff. What he didn’t realize was that it was covered with ants. He had the most horrified look on his face as he tried to snort them out of his nose. Glad both our pups were OK!

Poor pup. I can imagine the whole scene.

YIKES! Hope you got rid of them all. Glad Nox wasn’t too bothered by them.

I’m certain I got rid of all the ants at this point. It was an unpleasant surprise and I am relieved my poor old pup didn’t get bitten. Having her cry just hurts my heart.

Glad the ants are all gone, AND that Nox is OK. 🙂

Yes I imagine your skin looked more inviting for the ants then Nox’s fur! I hope the bites are not tooo annoying, or at least do not have any lasting effect.

Only two of the bites are bothering me now. One by my wedding ring and one on the palm, just under my middle finger. The bites started out itchy then seemed to go away, except for those two.
