With some time to spare before the FROG (Forest River Owners Group) Rally started, we decided to go for a hike at the Abshire Prairie across the road from the fairgrounds.
On August 13th (Sunday), we started out our walk with Nox on the leash. She got tired before we made it out of the fairgrounds, so she was placed in her backpack and put on Bruce’s back.
At the front of the fairgrounds, there was a quilt block garden.

We crossed the road at a crosswalk and as we walked down the sidewalk, we saw a train up ahead. The turn into the Abshire Prairie is to the right of Bruce. The flowers at the sidewalk are part of the prairie.

We turned onto the gravel entrance. There is very limited parking for cars. The path is gravel and flat; it is next to a creek.

There were many beautiful flowers and butterflies as we walked along the trail.

The trail crossed over the creek. Wild sunflowers were growing next to the bridge over the creek.

After we crossed the bridge, the trail was in the woods. The mosquitoes found us, so we turned around and walked quickly back into the sunshine.
We saw a few joggers, bicyclists, and other walkers on the trail.
It was a nice walk, except for the mosquitoes in the woods.
The prairie is beautiful! I love a big patch of sunflowers especially. Nox is so cute looking out of her backpack.

She loves the ride! I loved walking up to the prairie and seeing all the sunflowers. They were also scattered about in the prairie. There was also a path that was somewhat damp that cut through the prairie. We walked on it for a little ways before deciding that it was getting too wet. It allowed a cross section view of the prairie. I always pictured prairie as just grass, but I’ve learned it wasn’t just grasses.

Your photos are so crisp and clear! As I look at them, I can smell the scents of the prairie and hear the sounds. (I think they sounded something like, “Drat, another blasted mosquito got me!”.)

Yes, that was exactly the sounds, as well as, “Let’s get out of here before I get another bite.”

Looks pretty! Too bad about the mosquitos. We have been lucky to have no mosquitos to speak of this summer where we live, due to the dry weather. Some summers they are so bad you can barely go outside at certain times of the day.

In Illinois, I put on bug spray every time I stepped outside after a couple of days of being a buffet for mosquitoes. It hasn’t been nearly as bad in Indiana, except for the woods.

No doubt Miss Nox was exhausted by her extended time being carried in a backpack. Pure dog abuse and deserving of compensation in the form of extra treats.

Oh yes, I am sure that big yawn was due to being exhausted from being carried. For some reason, she felt she she have a treat when we got home. She was rewarded for asking about getting a treat once we got home.
