Leaving the Great Salt Plains State Park for Ellis, Kansas

May 30, 2023

We packed up the RV on May 19 and headed west on OK 11 and then north along US 281 until we hit I-70. We took I-70 west straight to Ellis, KS.

Luckily, it wasn’t raining as we packed up and hitched up. It started raining on us as we drove west on OK 11 and it rain until we were a ways into Kansas. It was sunny when we pulled into our campsite at the Ellis Lakeside Campground.

We had visited Ellis last year around this same time while staying in Hays, KS. We discovered the campground then. The campground is run by the city and only costs $25 a night on season.

After we pulled into the site we picked, we leveled the rig. The camping side kitchen slide just wouldn’t come out. (It came out fine a couple of days later when we set up in Golden, CO.)

After walking Nox around, Bruce paid for our site at the pay station.

We discussed having breakfast at JR Brickhouse Diner. We had eaten breakfast there last year and it was very good. Since google said it was temporarily closed, we decided walk over and see. Google is not always kept updated.

We walked to Washington St and sure enough, the diner was closed. We decided to walk around Ellis.

The sunset was lovely and we made it home before it was fully dark.

Walking helps relieve the stress of a moving day. Being at a new place is fun, but getting there with our large rig is not so fun.
