Watching Bruce Enjoy the New Toy (Tractor)

May 23, 2026

On May 14, Bruce asked me if I had any thoughts on what to do next with the tractor. As we walked to see the figs, I saw the mess of roots and holes that made a spot by the fence very hard to mow. I suggested that it could be the next project.

The figs, dogwoods, and redbud trees are looking nice.

After our walk, Bruce used the tractor to tackle the roots.

The picture of the holes left behind after the roots were removed, doesn’t do the destruction justice.

I walked around back and saw this cabbage white butterfly visiting the blooming thyme.

While I enjoy the beauty of the cabbage white butterfly, I hate the results of their visits to the plants in the mustard (Brassicaceae) family.

Bruce moved the tree roots to the burn pile using the front loader.

You can see the sad remains of Pine Tree One’s stump in the burn pile.

Next, Bruce picked up a load of gravel and dirt from the bottom of the driveway. He used that load to start to fill in the holes left from the root removal.

Bruce got a second load and filled in some more. It got hot enough that he didn’t want to work outside. He gave up on the hole filling.

After it cooled down a bit, I walked around the flower gardens. I had weeded them before my surgery. The weeds had popped up since. I refrained from pulling any up.

I noticed my kinetic dragonfly sculpture’s glass ball was sparkling. Up close, there was a rainbow inside the glass ball.

I did more walking with breaks in between. I was feeling good! The walking around has helped!

The sunset wasn’t as colorful as it is sometimes.

Venus was beautiful high above the clouds.
