And…Here’s the Front Garden

On July 3, I took some pictures of the incredible sorry state of my front flower garden. The weeds have found the perfect place to grow!

My vegetable garden was my focus while I was recovering from gallbladder surgery. I really couldn’t do much, and even then, I overdid it a few times.

The flower garden was left to its own devices, and it grew weeds as well as flowers. With the heat, the tomato jungle and the rest of the vegetable garden take up the coolish morning hours. I keep thinking that one day a week should be enough to keep up with the flower garden. So far, that hasn’t worked out. My hope is, it will cool down in the evenings, while it is still light outside. Nope, 87F might be cooler than 91F or 92F, but it’s not cool enough to tackle the weeds in the flower garden after a busy day. My hope keeps getting crushed.

Here’s the sunset picture from July 3. At dusk, the large population of fireflies are still flashing their love language over Blackberry Homestead.

  1. I could swear those weeds watch you to catch you with your back turned so they can double in size. Don’t let it stress you. Think how rewarding it will be once you are able to jump in there with both hands and feet!

  4. Wilding your yard is the new way to promote pollinator friendly gardens. A meadow, as it were. Mine looks worse than yours, but oh, the butterflies, bees, and birds I see enjoying the options for dinner.

    1. Well, I was trying to grow a hummingbird and butterfly garden! 😆 My vegetable garden is full of wild bees of different sizes. Since we have so many wild bees, the idea of depriving them of food by bringing in the European honeybee bothers me. A strong population of native bees is important to me.

  5. I finally got to the weeds today, and it felt really good. Tomorrow we’re back to the 90s, so I’m sure my work will be quickly undone.

    Maybe buy some paints and decorate your weeds?
