An Inside Job, the Heat Is On

On June 28, I did my new normal garden task before it got into the high 90s. I also checked on the melons.

Here’s the cute formally hairy watermelon. It has gone bald.

The globe basil is trying to sneak into the picture.

I don’t recall what type of melon this is. I didn’t search through the vines to find the tag.

I harvested beans, yard long beans, tomatoes, and one garlic bulb.

With the temperature rising, Bruce and I headed inside to cool off.

We decided to do an indoor task. I ordered metal shelves similar to the ones in the garage. They arrived yesterday.

Here is the before picture of the wall where we put the shelves.

Bruce was excited to put them up.

Making Sure All the Parts Are There

Here, Bruce is putting it together. I helped put the top shelves on the unit.

I did not take a picture of the empty shelves. Once the shelves were in place, we relaxed. We sat in the living room, hoping to see hummingbirds. Instead, we saw a Blue Grosbeak on the sidewalk. The pictures don’t do him justice. The bright blue is washed out in the picture. We were excited to see him so close.

Overall, a productive day.

June 29, Happy Birthday, Bruce!

This was a difficult birthday for Bruce. Bruce really missed his father today. His dad always sent Bruce a birthday card. It sunk in that he would never get another card from his dad.

  1. Cheers to Bruce for sitting seiza. That’s the Japanese name for sitting on your ankles in that position. Most people in US cannot do that, at least for any amount of time. I can do it pretty much effortlessly after years of practice and when I am at the gym on the stretching mat or such, I sit like that and get strange looks from others.

    1. Bruce was surprised how much it meant to him. His dad always sent a funny card, puns if he could find one. Puns were something they had in common.

It is lovely you have a keepsake box.
