A Me Day

February 5, 2025

Yesterday, I had an appointment at 11:00 AM with my dermatologist to follow up on the lipodermatosclerosis. I think this is the longest one word condition I’ve ever had.

The doctor walked me through the cause, broken blood vessels allowing for blood to leak into the fat layer and the body’s immune system deciding to attack the leaking blood, causing inflammation. I had very red and swollen woody lump on my left leg by my Achilles tendon.

The doctor was very clear. It is usually a progressive condition. I have to keep it under control. I need to continue to wear compression socks to keep the blood from leaking. Walking while wearing compression socks is the recommended treatment to help keep it from getting worse.

The doctor was really pleased with my progress. I caught it early. He warned me if it flared up, I need to come in right away. Now that I understand the results of not getting treatment, if it flares up, I’ll head straight to the doctor’s office!

After the visit to the doctor’s, I decided I would love a tomato pie. I stopped at Sweet Basil Alabama, only to find they were closed for a private event. I decided it was time to check out the London Shop in the same center. I was expecting British foods and other fun British items. Instead it is a men’s clothing store, with beautiful men’s clothes.

On the way back to the truck, I stopped in at Thread, a quilting store. They also sell embroidery thread. I had a great time looking at fabrics. I am considering taking a quilting class. It sounds like fun.

I drove to the UPS store to return a package. The line wrapped around the inside of the store. Another time of day might be less busy.

After sending the package off, I checked out Super Buys. I did spot a pizza oven that I gave serious consideration to, but decided not to buy it. It gets good reviews on Amazon. It is normally between $230 and $250.

I decided to try a restaurant in the shopping center, Lil Capones. The lasagna was so cheesy and delicious! Or was it delicious because it was so cheesy?

It was a wonderful meal and I even splurged and got a cannoli. I asked if I could have it without chocolate and the answer was yes. (I can’t have food with caffeine due to a medical issue.) The waitress brought out the cannoli and then asked if I would like caramel on my cannoli. I said yes.

The waitress brought a little cup of caramel. It was delicious poured over the cannoli.

The service was outstanding. I will be back with Bruce.

After eating lunch, I took my leftover lasagna to the truck. I walked to TJ Maxx in the same center. I happily placed several food items into the cart. I found a king sized comforter to replace the too small regular/ queen comforter we were using.

I was looking at the pillows to replace the pillows at the RV. Another lady was looking at the same time. She mentioned how hard it is to find good pillows. I agreed and we got to talking. We must’ve talked for 20 minutes before we introduced ourselves. Another lady thought we were having fun and joined our conversation. It was really enjoyable to meet new people and talk for a while.

I paid for my items and headed home. Nox was happy to see me and to get outside. She followed me back and forth from the house to the truck as I carried in my purchases.

The vermiculite had arrived and was waiting on the front porch. It was a big box as I brought 4 cubic feet. It was very light.

I put away my purchases. I decided to mix the vermiculite into the coco core and the composted cow manure in the trough. I wanted to get the mixing competed before it rained.

The sunset was lovely.

Today, it was overcast with rain predicted.

I made a list of all the stuff we had put in the odd room. I even took the time to put some stuff away.

Nox slept through part of my list making.

She woke up.

She hung out with me in the odd room. After some consideration, Nox decided she needed to go outside. She got my attention and headed over to the garage door. I opened the garage door for her, and Nox headed to the garage back door. She wanted out. I was happy to take a break.

Nox wondered around the yard doing Nox things. Once she was done, she headed inside.

I heard the rain start, so I went to see how the drainage ditch was working.

I walked around after the rain. Fog was rising from the ground.

It was a nice day.

  1. I think it sounds like a wonderful me day–treating yourself to lunch, checking out the stores you like, spending time admiring your handiwork at home, and chilling with Nox. I have been wanting to go to Tupelo to TJ Maxx for a while now. Even the times I do not buy anything, it is just fun to me, and I am all by myself so it really is my me time. Next time, I plan to stop in at Hobby Lobby next door and see what outside items they might have that will help me with my humongous landscaping project! It is overcast here, but no rain so far and the deck is coming along. I will do an update after they stop for the day. I did not think the 6 posts to support the roof would be that photo worthy yesterday-ha! It took way longer to get the new truck than I would have thought it would, so by the time we got home from that, there was not much daylight left anyway.

    1. It was a great day. I love shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshals. Tuesday Morning was always a great place to shop. I got my Kitchen Aid 6 quart lift stand mixer at Tuesday Mornings for just under $200. What a deal!

Hobby Lobby is always a fun place to shop for me. I enjoy thinking about what I could do with the offerings.

I look forward to seeing the progress on the deck!

  2. I feel for you. I’ve recently joined the ranks of folks needing to wear compression gear as well. It’s tolerable in the winter, but I imagine it will be miserable in the summer.

I’m glad you got to meet some new people in your town! Hope Bruce enjoys the new restaurants and shops as much as you when he gets home. 😊
