Here Comes the Rain and Maybe a Sting Jet

October 9, 2026

I don’t normally post real time. I post the next day or a few days later. This is a post today about the weather forecast for tonight.

Hurricane Isaias appears to be coming in at Pensacola, FL, as well as hitting Mobil Bay in Alabama, the coast of Mississippi, and the mouth of the Mississippi River in Louisiana. The edge appears to be coming up the border of Alabama and Mississippi.

We are expecting rain, lots of rain and some high winds starting tonight.

The weather service is also worried about Sting Jets as the hurricane downgrades.

What is a Sting Jet? AL.com provides a description of what a Sting Jet is.

“The weather service described it as being “a highly localized, narrow stream of strong to violent wind that descends rapidly from the mid-troposphere to the surface on the backside of the storm, often producing very strong, unexpected ground-level gusts.”

According to NOAA, the “sting” in its name is due to the fact that it can resemble the shape of a scorpion’s tail.”

It is unlikely we’ll get Sting Jets here since the hurricane will be a tropical storm by the time it says hello to us. It is a different story for Middle Alabama.

I hope ya’ll in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio stay safe.
