Current News – A Bad Day, Good News, No One Hurt

September 14, 2024

Today, we had to hook up the RV in the rain. It is never fun to pack up in the rain. Everything gets put away wet.

We are heading to Topeka, Indiana to the Riverstone factory. We are on their books to get all the RV hail damage repaired.

Just south of Nashville on I-65, Bruce noticed the trailer brakes were gone. Shortly after, the RV tire pressure monitor set off an alarm as pressure dropped dramatically in one tire. We lost a tire.

We pulled off to the side of the road. Bruce got the spare tire out and that was a trick on its own.

He then tried to remove the tire. The brakes had broken loose and jammed up the tire so there was no way Bruce could remove it with the tools he had.

Bruce had me find a campground nearby. I found Two Rivers Campground. He put the bolts back onto the wheel and we slowly (45 miles an hour, with hazards blinking) drove to the campground.

Fortunately, they had a spot.

This is what happened to the tire by the time we stopped.

Missing the Fender!

The inside of the RV was a jumbled mess.

Bruce called a mobile tech and the tech can’t come until tomorrow evening.

Bruce was covered with grease and I just tossed the shirt he was wearing. He jammed one finger and scraped up his back through the shirt.

Bruce felt so much better after a shower. He’s exhausted and taking a nap.

I am just relieved to be stopped.

I can’t believe we spent all that money to make sure the trailer brakes were fine to have this happen.

      1. Yes, I am glad we’ll be in a sticks and bricks house for a bit.

I was really looking forward to this trip, thinking we’d really enjoy it.

At least we’ll get the Tennessee state sticker on our map.

  1. I am glad no one was hurt; what did Nox think? I guess it’s fortunate that you have a big enough rig so that there are extra wheels on each side. I know that I have been glad to have the dual wheels for the redundancy. May everything get fixed easily, and the hail damage repaired.

  2. Oh my goodness, I am glad this experience ended up with you all being safe, despite the frustration and damage. Also I notice your new property has a big yard. Welcome back to the world of lawn mowing! My husband spends a lot of time mowing our yard plus the family cabin property.

  3. I am really sorry to read about this, and especially after all the work you just had done. I am sure as you and everyone said you are just glad to are all okay, minus a jammed finger and scraped back. Just sending hugs out into the universe for you and hoping all will soon be well.
