Current News – Big News – Our Offer on a House Was Accepted

August 31, 2024

Between touring the Shoals area quad cities (Tuscumbia, Sheffield, Muscle Shoals and Florence), we found a buyer’s agent (Donna Brown) to show us houses.

We wanted some land with the house, with 5 acres being the minimum. This had been our dream before being bitten by the RV bug.

Donna was great and showed us several houses that meet our overall criteria. After seeing the offerings and having some rather interesting experiences (just ask Bruce about the room of eternal stench), we found a recently renovated house with 5 acres.

We mostly liked this house. It had been recently renovated (except for a very pink bathroom) with a lot of very nice touches, such as double pane windows. The kitchen is nice, but not how I would’ve renovated it. Still, it is very usable.

We saw one more house. It looked great in the pictures. Based on what we saw, we felt we could renovate it. Nope, it had major water damage, rotten ceiling beams, rotted sections in the wall and strange waves in the floor. We didn’t even finish touring the house. Out the door we went. Donna apologized for even showing the house, but since it had just come onto the market, she had no way of knowing the condition.

This falling down house convinced Bruce it made sense to make an offer on the house we mostly liked. While I liked the land and house better than Bruce, he liked it well enough and felt we could make it our own. We had several conversations about the house and the land. (Bruce doesn’t like how much open yard there is and he would like more trees.) I am looking forward to planting nut trees, fruit trees and gardens.

I had decided that we’d be looking at houses again next year and I was okay with that.

We have inspections scheduled for next week and if all goes well, we’ll be home owners again on September 12.

We will still be heading up to the Riverstone factory in Indiana to get the RV repaired from the hail damage. They’ve already ordered the parts.

Fingers Crossed, Home Sweet Home

Now that we’ve made an offer, Bruce is very excited. Of course, I am very excited as well.

    1. I am thinking of creating a new blog. I like blogging and Retirement RV Dream won’t fit what will be happening in our lives. We have talked about buying a much smaller RV and still traveling some of the year. If we do that, I’ll keep this blog for those travels.

    1. Yes, indeed! We loved living in Alabama before we moved to Colorado. While we loved living in Colorado, it has gotten to be a lot more expensive and the cost of living there just seems to keep rising. Retired in Alabama is a lot more affordable. I also love that we are going to be so close to the Tennessee River.

      1. I hope it goes well, and we would love to visit you. New chapters are always exciting. We travel often but still keep our house. We have no plans to sell it. For us, it’s the best of both worlds.

  1. Well this is very exciting! I got way way behind if reading blog posts over the last 3 weeks or so. We had various groups of company coming and going at our house and the cabin nearby. Finally everyone was gone after Labor Day and we started to get back to normal. What are your plans with the RV now that you are buying a house?
