Out of Order Post – Another Fall

June 3, 2023

This morning (Saturday), we walked over to the Grateful Bread Bakery in Golden, CO. The heavy rains had washed large rocks onto the bridge to the center the bakery is in.

I was glad I was wearing my hiking boots, as they supported my ankles as I tripped over a rock about the size of two fist. I fell, hitting my left knee, left hip, and the palms of both hands. I know, I know, you aren’t supposed to use your hands to break your fall. It happened so fast, I just reacted.

Bruce was rather upset at seeing me fall. He helped me up and asked if I had hurt my ankle again. He also wanted to know if I was badly hurt anywhere. Bruce was ready to go get the truck to take me back home.

Once I got moving, I could tell I wasn’t badly hurt. Spoiler alert – my knee got a little skinned up, my hip is fine, and my palms are a little bruised from the small rocks on the bridge.

I told Bruce I was okay and didn’t need him to get the truck. We could proceed with our trip to Grateful Bread.

Grateful Bread has an effective and efficient method for ordering. Outside of the building, under a tent, you take a number and fill out an order sheet. You then wait for your number to be called.

Once your number is called, you walk inside, up a set of stairs. There is often a short wait to hand your order sheet to one of three cashiers. The cashier rings up your order and passes the order sheet to another person, who fills a paper bag with the bread on the order sheet. They have an area set aside for you to stand while they quickly fill your order. Once your order is filled, you leave with a bag of wonderful smelling bread.

We ordered croissants for breakfast this morning. Bruce got the chocolate croissant and a chocolate and almond croissant. I got four plain croissants, and shared one with Bruce.

It started drizzling rain while we waited outside for our number to be called. It continued to drizzle as we walked back home. I was glad I had put on a sweatshirt this morning.

Once we got home, I checked to see how hurt I was. My hip looked fine and wasn’t hurting. My left knee was a little bit skinned up. My palms were slightly bruised and a bit sore.

Bruce started tea while I took the croissants out of the bag. They were so yummy. Bruce loves the delicious dark chocolate in the croissants. I love the buttery, flaky, melt in your mouth of the regular croissants.

  1. My mouth is watering just looking at the photo of the counter with all its goodies! I’m with Bruce on the Chocolate or chocolate/almond croissants. And I’m glad you don’t have serious injuries; sounds like a hard landing.
