One of my and Bruce’s Facebook friends mentioned that she has a cousin in this area. The cousin mentioned to our Facebook friend that there’s an amazing farmers market near where we are staying in Webber, Florida. It is only open on Mondays.
Bruce and I thought it would be fun to go to the farmers market. This morning we got up early and rode the motorcycle to Webber, Florida.

We got to the farmers market while the farmers were still setting up.

We walked to the farmers’ section and walked from one end to the other end. This section reminded me of the farmers market I grew up with. My mom would take us (me and my sisters) with our produce from the garden and have us sell it. My sisters and I got to keep the money.
Bruce and I walked around to see if there was another section with fresh produce. We didn’t find any other areas with fresh produce.
We saw a pit master getting set up, mmm, BBQ. We saw other areas set up like a flea market. Behind the farmers’ market was an actual flea market. We looked around a bit, then we went back to purchase our fruits and vegetables. The produce stalls were set up when we went back.
We bought honey bells, limes, and satsumas. We bought beefsteak tomatoes, Asian eggplants, cilantro, scallions, baby bok choy, and jalapeño peppers. We couldn’t buy everything I wanted due to limited space on the motorcycle. That at least helps with not having as much in the RV. 🙂
I am looking forward to trying the tomatoes in tomato sandwiches!
We love Farmer’s Markets too but there are not many good ones nearby during the confusing on-and-off restrictions with Covid. Maybe a little later in the year…

They had an amazing selection there. I just couldn’t see how to carry a pineapple and a melon back with us!

I am surprised you could get that much on the motorcycle! It is a beautiful farmer’s market though.

We have two side bags. They can hold a surprising amount.

That was a fun outing to the farmers’ market. I drooled at the thought of a tomato sandwich. We won’t think of that until July or August.

In Colorado, we didn’t get large tomatoes until August. When I was growing up, we’d have tomatoes in June. It was so hard to wait.

My parents had early tomatoes in Tennessee. I don’t remember the months, but we seemed to have home-grown tomatoes half the year.

That sound right to me. I love vine ripen tomatoes.

What is a “tomato sandwich”? Is there more to it, or just what the name implies?

Bill – if you have never had a tomato sandwich, you don’t know what you are missing. There is something magical about a sweet and acidic tomato with salt on bread with mayo.
You need good sandwich bread, a vine ripe tomato, salt, and real mayo and that is all you need for a tomato sandwich.
Just for fun, you can read this recipe I posted https://retirementrvdream.com/2020/07/30/southwestern-blt-sandwich/
