Recently a fellow blogger at https://kayak2016blog.wordpress.com/ asked me how Nox got her name. I realized I hadn’t shared the story of how Nox and Luna got their names. While Luna is no longer with us, except in memories, how Nox got her name is directly related to us getting both Nox and Luna at the same time.
About 13 years ago, Bruce and I adopted two little dogs at the same time from the local animal shelter, Table Mesa Animal Shelter, which later became the Foothills Animal Shelter.
To encourage the adoption of both dogs at the same time, they named the dogs, Yin and Yang. While the names were very cute, we decided the names sounded so similar to each other, the dogs wouldn’t be able to tell which was which. We also decided that we wouldn’t remember which was which either.
Our daughter was with us when we adopted the dogs from the shelter. On the way home with the dogs, we were discussing different names. Our daughter suggested Luna and Nox. Luna for the moon and Nox for the night.
We liked the names and the little white dog became Luna for the moon and the little black dog became Nox for the night.
When the dogs were being crazy, we would joke that Luna was short for Lunatic and Nox was short for Obnoxious.

How cute!

Those are the perfect names for two cuties! I really liked the extended version of the names 😊

We often called Luna a Lunatic based on her antics. We don’t often call Nox Obnoxious any more. When she was a puppy and a young dog, she could be pretty nutty.

I think you told me before about Nox’s name but this is the first I ever saw and had info on Luna. What a great photo. Refresh my memory…what breed(s)? And somewhere along the line I forgot that Ms. Nox is 13, or as Max would say, a younger woman.

Luna was a terrier and Chihuahua mix. When she was in good health, she weighed about 7.5 to 8 pounds. Nox was about 6 months old when we got her. Nox is part cairn terrier. She may be all cairn terrier

We don’t think Nox is pure Cairn Terrier due to her curled up tail and her enormous ears.

The ears definitely don’t look pure Cairn but they are so appealing on her little face. I bet she can hear me typing this all the way from Colorado.

She does have amazing hearing, so she may be able to hear you typing all the way in Colorado!
