Eating Supper in Nashville, Tennessee

June 25, 2026

Before going to the Johnny Cash Museum, Larry, Jeanne, Bruce, and I decided to eat somewhere in Nashville. After seeing the Johnny Cash Museum, we walked around for a bit. We to try some of the Nashville Hot Fried Chicken and ended up at Hattie B’s, a very noisy and happening place.

Jeanne (ajeanneinthekitchen.com) wrote a great blog about Hattie B’s. (Once again, I am being lazy and letting Jeanne do all the work. She is a great food blogger about recipes and restaurants.)

Eating Our Way Through The South – Part 2 – Hattie B’s

One of Larry’s brothers used to go to Nashville a lot for work. He recommended we try Hattie B’s for dinner. The place was rockin’ and was obviously …

We found a place to sit to rest our feet while Bruce and Larry ordered for us.

Those of you who follow my blog know I take a lot of pictures of Bruce’s back as he walks ahead of me. I am sure you can recognize him just from his back.

Ordering, Bruce on the Right, Larry to the Left of Bruce

If you’ve just started following my blog and don’t recognize Bruce from his back, he is the short guy in the Jekyll Island T-shirt. Larry is the tall guy in the blue shirt just to the right of Bruce.

I am not so much into noisy and happening places now, 40 years ago, sure. Hattie B’s was too noisy for the now me. We couldn’t hear each other talk very well over the noise. It just goes to show I might need hearing aids. Sigh!

  1. I am with you, I do not like noisy restaurants where you can’t hear yourself think, much less the other people you are with. And I think it is fine to refer people to another source rather than describe something all over again. In this case it give Jeanne some traffic on her blog.

    1. Bruce is attached by the seat to the tractor. (Pun intended. 😁)

Jeanne is a wonderful lady. We became friends through our blogs and then in person. She has such a great view on life and her blog shows it. She has a circle of good friends and I am honored to be included in that circle.

    1. When we were at the Nashville Parthenon, with one finger, I was able to move one of the massive front doors. I expect that would not be allowed today.

The Johnny Cash Museum is well worth the visit for fans. It is well designed, with excellent displays. The museum has many personal effects, letters he wrote, handwritten songs, and family items. These were all set up in a timeline, so you can “walk” through his life. They don’t sugarcoat his problems and struggles with alcohol and controlled substances.

A room is set aside for his gold+ records and awards. It is an impressive room. He was a prolific songwriter (1,000 songs) and singer.

There is a room set aside for “Ragged Old Flag”. The record of Johnny Cash reading the poem is deeply meaningful.

They played his songs, one after another. I was taken back to my childhood, listening to the radio playing Johnny Cash songs.

      The gift shop wasn’t much.

That was my overall impression of the museum.

    1. Yes, there was a lot about her. There was a section on her life before meeting Johnny Cash, how she met him, and Johnny’s grand proposal to her. Her career in music was separately covered. She was included in the timeline of Johnny Cash’s life.
