Donating Nox’s Things to the Colbert County Animal Shelter

March 4, 2026

Yesterday (March 3), we took the Nox’s food and treats to the Colbert County Animal Shelter. We also dropped off a stack of towels since we know animal shelters need towels to help take care of dogs.

We dropped her remaining medication off with the veterinarian on March 3.

Before Nox was put down, we had talked with the veterinarian about where we could donate Nox’s things and medication. We wanted to help as many dogs as possible. The veterinarian said she would take the medication and if any could be donated, she would send it to the Colbert County Animal Shelter. She said they would be very happy to get the food.

I hope my things help other dogs.

The Colbert County Animal Shelter employees and volunteers were very sympathetic and supportive of our loss. They admired Nox’s picture and said she was so cute. They also promised if we wanted another dog, they would do their best to help us.

We thanked them and said we weren’t ready to look for an another dog just yet. We said we would keep them in mind when we were ready to adopt.

  1. That is such a sweet story, Julia. I do think in the face of loss, helping beyond ourselves is not just kind to others, but good for us also. Nox looks so sweet in that photo and I can just see that little speech bubble in her head.
