One Week Follow-Up for Cataract Surgery, All Good

July 25, 2025

On Wednesday (July 23), Bruce got up and put on his coveralls. He cut up one of the branch piles with the electric pole saw so the branches would fit into the chipper.

After coming in and cooling off, Bruce headed outside and moved two cartloads of the Bama Dirt into the new garden bed.

After lunch, Bruce drove over the new driveway for the first time to take me to my one-week follow-up appointment for my cataract surgery. I got good news from the doctor. My eye pressure is almost back to normal, at 16. It had been at 24 the day after surgery. My normal eye pressure is 14. My doctor said I am healing well. It will be a month after surgery before I can get a new glasses prescription, so three more weeks. My next follow-up appointment is August 13, a month after my cataract surgery.

We had a beautiful sunset. It became a beautiful pink later, but I was busy and didn’t stop to take a picture.

On Thursday (July 24), I had PT. My therapist felt I was doing well enough to release me. She gave me some exercises to continue to do at home. Bruce said, ā€œYou are going to be ripped with all this exercise!ā€

Earlier in the week (Tuesday), I saw an ad in the local free paper, Courier Journal, for Mark ā€œMulemanā€ Massey for $15 a person.

Not having heard of Muleman before, I looked him up and found a video of him playing on YouTube. Bruce and I enjoyed the music, so I purchased tickets to go see Mark ā€œMulemanā€ Massey in concert at the Ritz Studio, next door to the Ritz Theatre in Sheffield, AL. The show was one night only, July 24 starting at 7:00 pm. The Tennessee Valley Art Association and Colbert County sponsored the show.

Mark ā€œMulemanā€ Massey put on a great show! He sings the blues with style and feeling. He was also very humorous when talking about his life experiences. When singing, he had fun with some old classics. He covered ā€œThe Dock of the Bayā€ by Otis Redding. He changed the place names to local names and instead of ā€œwatching the tide roll inā€, the lyrics became ā€œwatching the Tide people roll.ā€ After playing covers, he played his music from his album, ā€œBeen a Long, Long Timeā€ and he would explain where he got inspiration for his songs.

We had a great time! I would’ve liked to have done the meet and greet, but we needed to get home to Nox. She needed her medication.

It was a great day!

  1. I am glad to hear your cataract surgery follow up was good. What lens did you end up getting (close up OR distance?). The music show sounded nice, and looks like there is a regular schedule of events at that theater.

    1. I went with the close-up lens and so far, I am happy with that decision. I am able to use my computer glass to see, but I am really looking forward to the 4-week follow up so I can get a new prescription.

The music show was a lot of fun. The theater does have all sorts of shows. They also do a lot of plays. I look forward to seeing some of the plays.

  2. I do remember the transition time after surgery and before you can get your new glasses is a little hard. It will be great when you can get a prescription for distance. I am glad your procedure has worked out so well for you.
