Estate Sales Finds, Update on FIL

This morning, after we got up and took care of Nox, we headed out to two estate sales.

At the first estate sale, Bruce bought a pair of plastic sawhorses and a couple of levels. I bought a 3 quart stainless steel sauté pan with a glass lid for $12.

At the next estate sale, we bought a Weber gas grill for $200. New, the grill runs between $800 and $900. It looks hardly used. It came with a cover and a gas tank.

I just hope the new grill works as well as my beloved Weber Skyline gas grill I had in Colorado. I loved my previous Weber grill. It cooked like a dream. It was a trusted companion for grilling, griddling and baking. I used it a lot when it was hot outside and I didn’t want to heat up the house. It went to a good home; a good friend took it.

We stopped at Home Depot and picked up a 10 foot metal conduit for a trellis before heading home. You can see it sticking out of the truck bed.

New to Us Grill

While we were out, Bruce got an update on his dad. My father-in-law is now out of intensive care and is in a regular room. The doctor is talking about letting him go home tomorrow or Sunday. It is a relief that he is doing so well. My FIL insists that he doesn’t need any company to come and help him out at home. I am uncomfortable with the idea of him being on his own after this fall, but I am also uncomfortable with pushing ourselves on him when not wanted.

Once the new Weber grill is set up, we’ll put away the portable grill. We are going to keep it since we do plan to go camping in the future. We may use it for picnics as well.

  3. Always tricky knowing whether to get involved or not – my strategy is they managed this long their way, who am I to force a change now – if he says he’s ok, he probably is… but maybe do a drive by eventually if you can. Enjoy the Weber! Linda xx

    1. I am really hoping he is truly okay and you are right, who are we to force him to change. I would love to be able to do a drive by to see how he is. The problem is distance. It is an 8 hour drive for us, a 12 hour drive for one sister and brother, 14 hour drive for the other sister and a 16 hour drive for the other brother. Unfortunately, none of us can just drive by. We could fly, but then it isn’t just a drive by.

      I am looking forward to having a Weber grill again!

      1. Try not to feel too guilty – if he says he’s alright then you taking a cross-country flight might stress him out. (my mother gets upset if we do anything to help her – she says it makes her feel like a burden – so our good intentions end up falling a bit flat!) Enjoy the weber and “Grill baby grill”!

      2. Bruce spoke with his dad last night and he now feels a lot better about his dad’s condition.

        I’ve got the grill cleaned up and ready to grill! Lamb chops and corn on the cob will be my first grilling experience tonight.

  6. As a cussedly independent sort, I have a lot of sympathy for him not wanting people hovering. I figure that if I die a little sooner, but with more autonomy, I will be happier overall. On the other hand, you won’t have him around forever; go visit when you can to explicitly spend time with him, rather than to deny him his independence. The last time I remember you spending time to visit, it sounded like you had a great time.

    1. It is good to hear your thoughts. Bruce says he realizes just how much like his dad he is now.

      We did have a wonderful time when we went to just visit.
