I Started Physical Therapy Today

April 3, 2025

For the last four years, I have had issues with my left side of my back. It is triggered when riding on the back of the motorcycle for more than 30 minutes. I have the same pain when washing a large load of dishes by hand or when I spend a significant amount of time cooking. Driving home from Golden, Colorado was a brutally painful experience. The first four hours were fine, but the rest of the two and a half day trip had my back screaming in pain. When I am a passenger in the truck, it doesn’t hurt.

All these activities have one thing in common, I am holding out my arms for an extended period of time.

Since we’ve settled down and now have a doctor locally, I talked to my doctor about the back and shoulder pain. He felt physical therapy was a great starting point. I agreed since I had great results with physical therapy for my knee.

I like the physical therapist. He explained the process well. After the poking and prodding to see where the pain is, he attached electrodes to my neck muscles and had a warm pillow for my neck. He had me lie back onto another pillow. He put a bolster under my knees. The electricity running through the electrodes felt like small fingers gently massaging me. It was a very relaxing experience.

I’ll be going to physical therapy twice a week for a while.

Next Tuesday, he plans to start building up the muscle in my neck and shoulder.

    1. Thank you. I am lucky it doesn’t last more than a few days at a time. Bruce assures me that getting old is just getting a collection of various pains.
