Podiatrist and Dermatologist Visit

April 2, 2025

On Monday (March 31), I went to see the podiatrist my new primary care doctor recommended for an ingrown toenail.

The podiatrist gave me three options to deal with my ingrown toenail. After additional discussion with the doctor, I picked option one which was the simplest and least invasive treatment.

The doctor picked up clippers that looked like a small set of stainless steel wire cutters. Using these clippers, he cut the corner of the toenail with the ingrown toenail off.

He warned me it might be a somewhat painful since my toe was tender from the ingrown toenail.

He was right! It was a bit painful, but he was done quickly.

He said if the toenail grows back and starts causing me problems again, I can trim it myself since I was able to see how he did it. He mentioned that he’d be happy to trim my toenail again if I wasn’t able to reach it. He also mentioned if the corner removal of the toenail doesn’t work or stops working for me, we could then try the other options.

Removing the corner of the toenail has already helped. My toe is feeling better already!

On Tuesday (April 1), I went in to see my dermatologist since I had a painful red lump on my ankle develop last week. I was concerned that the new spot was more lipodermatosclerosis. He said it was unlikely since the lump was over a bony area (ie no fat layer for blood to leak under) and it looked like a bug bite to him. That was a relief. He wants me to put hydrocortisone on it. If it spreads or doesn’t get better in a couple of weeks, I need to see him again.

Today, I am going in for a mammogram. It has been a while since I had one.

I’ve got an appointment to see a local neurologist later this month. I hope I like him. If I don’t, I’ll need to find another one.

After the end of April, I should be done with medical appointments for a while.

    1. 😆Predictive text and autocorrect are banes! I sometimes have to change a word three times before they leave it alone!

My mammogram wasn’t fun. I am absolutely sure the machine was engineered by a man. A woman wouldn’t have set it up so you had to turn and tilt your head back to avoid getting your chin in the image!

      1. It might make it entertaining, but it would mean I would have to have test redone. Ouch! I’ve got fibrous cyst that are painful well compressed. 😰
