Bama Dirt Delivery

March 2, 2025

On Friday (February 28), Bama Dirt called and asked if we were ready for a delivery. The answer was yes!

They had to mix the dirt before they could bring it, so it took a bit for them to arrive after the call.

After looking at the dirt, we decided to buy more. Bruce called the office and ordered another load.

I suggested shoveling the dirt in the cart then moving the cart to the beds and shoveling the dirt into the tall beds. Bruce didn’t like the idea of shoveling the dirt twice and felt we could just shovel it into the beds.

Shoveling it into tall beds was way more work than Bruce thought it would be. Bruce went and got the wagon. He shoveled dirt into the wagon and then we picked up the wagon and tipped it into the garden bed. It was a lot easier way to move the dirt.

A Lot of Dirt Moved!

We filled one bed and most of two more before we called it quits for the day. (I was able to shovel dirt directly into one of the short beds. I shoveled dirt into that bed while Bruce shoveled dirt into the wagon. I would stop shoveling when Bruce needed help lifting the wagon.)

Saturday (March 1), we filled the two beds we had partially filled the day before and a third bed. We don’t have enough dirt to fill the rest of the beds.

Bruce folded the tarp over the remaining dirt to keep it contained. We’ve had a bit of wind and we didn’t want the dirt to blow off the tarp.

We took a break from moving dirt today. We moved close to four tons of dirt! We’ve got another four tons of dirt coming!

      1. It will be; it was quite the feat to move them from the “trash pile” the crew made to where I could get to them. Like I said, I am a chip off my father and grandma. I could just see building a little path in the garden with them.

      2. I am collecting bricks that turn up around the property as well. I want to use them for stepping bricks for the trash can area. It gets muddy when it rains.

  1. How long until you start planting? Cool weather crops start in about 2 weeks here. (I’m not ready! There’s still snow on the ground in some places. 😭)

Y’all are going to look like Arnold after doing all that labor! 😂

    1. Well, I could plant peas and potatoes now. Most other cool weather crops can be planted around March 15. Our last expected frost date is April 29, but it can be earlier.

Bruce might look like Arnold, but I am going to look like Wonder Woman! 😆

      1. Oh, I love that, Julia! Wonder Woman–I can just see you out there in your crown, red boots, and star studded uniform. Perhaps if you have some spare time after getting the crops sewed, you could do a little clean up elsewhere?
