Bruce Made It Home!

October 18, 2024

Bruce pulled up to the house tonight around 9:30 PM.

He was itching so bad from the poison ivy that his goal was to say hi to me and Nox and then to treat it.

When he took off his shirt, I was horrified. The poison ivy rash is all over his chest, under his arms, his arms, his legs and even on his back.

My poison ivy rash is mostly gone, so seeing the rash Bruce has was upsetting. I knew he was having a bad time of it, but seeing it was different from hearing about it.

I am so happy he is home! Poison ivy rash and all.

He was also exhausted, as to be expected. I just hope he can get a good nights sleep.

    1. I thought so, but since he started using the extra strength Benadryl cream the pharmacist I saw, he is feeling worlds better. His words this morning after putting on the cream were, “ah, that’s the stuff. The itch has gone away.” My reply was, “isn’t it great?!”

He insisted we get some more while we were out today.

    1. You are welcome. He had a rough time. I was so grateful to Jeanne (ajeanneinthekitchen.com) and Larry for having Bruce over for dinner while he was in Golden, CO.

      1. We lived there 17 years. I had a mid century house, with vaulted ceilings with the one in the livingroom being two stories tall. The fireplace was gorgeous and went to the ceiling in the living room. The kitchen, ah, how I miss the kitchen. It was well organized and so much space. I loved the island. We also had a back porch that ran across the entire back of the house. So many BBQs and backyard parties. I loved that house and I hope the new owners will love it as well.

    1. It is a real thing and if you react to it, it is absolutely miserable. Imagine an itch that you shouldn’t scratch with oozing blisters and peeling skin. (Sunburn + constant itching) As a child, I had it so bad my eyes swelled shut. I had to spend some time in the hospital. I was completely covered with the rash.

      1. Yes and if you have dogs, don’t let them off the path in the woods. Our dog’s super power is finding poison ivy wherever she goes. If the poison ivy oil gets on a dog, it can be transferred to someone who pets the dog. I can’t say how many times Nox managed to find poison ivy, which meant a bath as soon as we got back to the RV.

    1. I’ve been there as well. Poison ivy is just awful! As a child, you just want to scratch it so bad. (That is true as an adult as well. I woke one night because I was scratching my poison ivy rash in my sleep. It really hurt.)

  1. I’m so glad to hear Bruce made it home safely, even though he’s dealing with such a tough poison ivy rash! It must be such a relief to have him back, despite the discomfort he’s in. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to see him like that, but your care and support will definitely help him feel better soon. Wishing him a restful night and a speedy recovery!

    1. He did recover quickly once home. Unfortunately, he managed to get into it again. He thinks he swiped it while mowing. He’s recovered from this round as well.
