Search and Rescue in Action in the Florence Harbor Marina, AL

September 7, 2024

This morning, we walked along the Tennessee River to the Florence Harbor Marina.

When we arrived at the marina, we saw several police vehicles and an enormous tow truck. Bruce was joking about someone getting towed.

One of the police vehicles had a trailer attached to it. We thought the police were doing some training for search and rescue.

We stopped to talk to an officer and found out it was the real thing. A man’s truck and boat trailer rolled down the boat ramp into the harbor. Luckily, no one was hurt, as the man wasn’t in the truck.

We continued our walk to the Florence-Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Center. I looked around while Bruce talked to the young man at the desk.

We walked back to the boat ramp to see how the recovery was going. The police divers were in the water and had found the truck.

After the cable was attached, the divers came out of the water.

The tow truck started to pull the truck out of the water, when the truck or trailer became snagged on a cable on the other side of the boat ramp. Another tow truck was brought in to help deal with the snagged cable

They sent a diver back to the truck to add a second cable.

The truck and trailer start coming onto the boat ramp.

The truck’s windshield wipers started swinging back and forth over the windshield.

The big tow truck moved forward to pull the truck and trailer the rest of the way out.

Truck Ready To Be Pulled

Once the trailer was on the boat ramp, we headed back to the RV.

It was very interesting to watch. We first come onto the scene at 11:20 AM and left for the RV at 1:57 PM.
