Questions We Get Asked a Lot About RV Life

December 16, 2023

  • How do you get your mail? We are members of Escapees RV Club (www.escapees.com) and we use their mail service. We use their Florida location as our physical mailing address and the Texas location as our mailing address. The Escapees mail service will forward our mail to us when we ask. We also pay extra for the scan service. They will open our mail and scan it for us. We then determine if any items need to be forwarded to us. Most RV parks let you receive packages.
  • What about doctors? We have most of our doctors in Florida. We stop for a couple of months in Florida to see our doctors and to take Nox to the veterinarian. We can see other doctors on the road as needed.
  • What kind of health insurance do you have? I was lucky enough to work for a company that lets me continue on their insurance until I’m 65. I have to pay the full cost for both Bruce and me, but we are covered for every state in the United States.
  • How do you get your medication? Bruce uses the prescription plan that comes with the insurance. As he says, zero is a nice number. His medication is completely covered. Mine isn’t. To help me out, my doctor prescribes 90 days for my prescriptions. I use GoodRx to get 90 days for less than 30 days copay with the insurance company. We use Walmart pharmacies. They are everywhere and are very professional. We had been using CVS, but transferring from one location to another got to be harder when they changed up their system.
  • How does Nox get her medication? The veterinarian’s office mails a 90 day supply to us. Unfortunately, they don use the USPS package mailing with the tracking number.
  • How do you find RV campgrounds? We use RV Life and read the reviews. RV Life shows the campgrounds and you can determine how far away they are.
  • How far do you travel during a day? Oh, that varies, but we try to keep it under 4 hours. We have traveled over 8 hours in the past, but it really takes it out of Bruce. We haven’t done that in a while.
  • Do you drive the truck with the RV? No, Bruce does all the driving right now. I would like to try it out on a nice straight stretch of interstate from one rest stop to another rest stop.
  • Have you tried Harvest Host? Yes, we love them! The Host are great and we have a great time.
  • Where are you from? Bruce answers this question by saying, “We are fully mobile.” I answer it by saying, “We are fulltime RVers.” Most people seem confused by Bruce’s answer and understand my answer. I’ll add, “We are now domiciled in Florida, but we lived Colorado for 27 years before we went fulltime.”
  • The next question is, where in Colorado did you live? Bruce will answer, “the Denver metro area.” I’ll generally say “Golden” since it was the last place we had a sticks and bricks home.
  • How long have you been fulltime RVers? We were living in our RV fulltime before we sold our house, so from April of 2021.
  • Where are you heading next? The question is answered by our next planned spot.

    1. It is a lot of juggling. We have to do normally ordinary living task and moving to a new spot makes it harder. If we haven’t stopped in an area before, we have to figure out where everything is. Thank goodness for google maps, even if it doesn’t always work as it should.
