A fellow blogger from A Year of Kayaking (https://kayak2016blog.wordpress.com/) was interested in seeing more quilt pictures from Shipshewana.
I am posting these for her and for my other blog friends who are interested in textiles.

My grandmother was a quilter. My dad made her a quilting frame that hung from her ceiling in her living room. It hung from the ceiling with ropes. When she wanted to quilt, she would stand on a stool and let the ropes down. She could then move her chair along the edge of the frame as she quilted.
Sometimes, three of my aunts would come over and help her quilt.
I was fascinated by the magic of the quilting. I loved seeing the patterns of the quilts she made.
Grandmother made me a quilt with the Sunbonnet Sue pattern. Each square is different and each sunbonnet has a different flower embroidered on it. I treasure this quilt as a tangible memory of her love.
The quilts are beautiful! I was just to a water aerobic class this morning and one of the people participating is a quilter.

I enjoyed seeing the beautiful quilts and I was glad Bruce found somewhere to sit since he isn’t interested in most quilts.
Next time we are in Golden, CO, I am going to checkout the quilt museum they have.

Thank you for posting these Julia! I do love textiles and there are several that really caught my eye. I think my fave is the one that was black and white with the center pieces of color.

That was an interesting quilt. My eyes felt dazzled from the colors of some of the quilts. The black and white one with the colored center was interesting to me.

I do love looking at quilts. The use of fabrics to make something so beautiful as fascinated me since I was a child.

Thanks for sharing more quilt photos! They are all so unique and beautiful. That is one textile craft I have not tried! My sister has made many quilts but is now on to painting instead.

Love the camper quilt – I’ll have to share that with other camping quilters I know!

Maybe you’ll be inspired to make one with fifth wheelers –

Maybe! I’ve been thinking about getting back into quilting on and off. I’ve also thought about taking up knitting again. I did get some art pencils and plan to start drawing again. I even have an idea of what I want to draw. I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I made art.
