Hiking at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park, LA

June 21, 2022 I wanted to go hiking along the trails in the woods instead of the trails in the sun. I want the cool woods instead of the bight sunshine beating down on me. Poverty Point State Park has a few trails in the woods: Jesse James Trail, Outlaw Trail, Hardbottom Trail, and Macon […]

Evening Walk Around Poverty Point State Park with Nox

June 19, 2022 We had a lovey walk yesterday evening. The sunset was spectacular and Nox enjoyed the cooler evening. Nox doesn’t enjoy walking in the heat. We saw various flowers and animals while we were walking. When we stopped to admire the sunset for a while, Nox got bored with standing and lay down […]

Poverty Point World Heritage Site – Part 3 – Walking Trail

June 18, 2022 The ranger provided us with a hiking trail guide for the 2.6 mile (4.2 km) trail. The trail is mostly flat and easy to walk. There is normally one climb to get to the top of the large Mound A. Unfortunately, the trail to the top of Mound A was closed due […]

Poverty Point World Heritage Site – Part 2 – The Museum

June 17, 2022 The museum at Poverty Point World Heritage Site is small, but dense. It has a lot of artifacts and information. This post is picture heavy because I found so many items interesting and want to share them. I enjoyed the pictures they had above the cases. It helped me understand how the […]

Poverty Point World Heritage Site – Part 1

June 17, 2022 The Poverty Point World Heritage Site is 16 miles from the Poverty Point State Park that we are staying in. Today, Bruce drove us to the Poverty Point World Heritage Site. We passed corn fields and soy bean fields. We pulled into the small parking lot and Bruce parked next to a […]

Walk Around Poverty Point State Park, LA

June 16, 2022 We’ve been taking walks around the park. Here are pictures of some of the campsites. As we walked along the paths, I got some pictures of local wildlife. We walked to the water and along the boardwalk. I haven’t seen any alligators or bears that the signs warn about. I am okay […]

Taking Nox for a Walk in Poverty Point State Park, LA

June 15, 2022 Our campsite is one campsite away from a sidewalk trail. This trail has been mowed on both sides and has nice grass. This sidewalk trail goes through some dense brush. Here are some pictures I took while walking Nox. Nox is very happy with the grass beside the sidewalk trail. It doesn’t […]

Finding a Place to Stay for Two Weeks

June 15, 2022 In looking for our next place to stay after the Fort Worth area, we checked out COE (Corp of Engineers) campgrounds. They are nice campgrounds along bodies of water. They usually have large sites that are fairly inexpensive. You can only stay two weeks in a COE campground, which is enough for […]

Hiking the McKay Hollow Trail in the Monte Sano State Park, AL

May 15, 2022 Bruce’s friend had been on most of the hiking trails at Monte Sano, but he hadn’t hiked the McKay Hollow Trail. It is marked as difficult on the hiking map. You can either start from the playground parking lot or hike another trail to get to the other end of the trail. […]

Japanese Tea Garden at Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, AL

May 15, 2022 On Saturday (May 14), we met up with Bruce’s friend in the picnic parking lot of Monte Sano State Park. We planned to go hiking in Monte Sano State Park. This was our old stomping grounds, as we lived in Huntsville in the early 90’s and often went hiking on Monte Sano. […]
