Three weeks and a day (May 28) after my gallbladder removal surgery, I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon. Normally, the post-op visit would have been two weeks and a day, but she was on vacation that week.
Before meeting with the surgeon, I put together a list of all the items that should have been communicated for post-op care. I gave the list to the surgeon, which she thanked me for. I did go over some items that I felt were critical.
A dissolving suture thread started coming out of one of my wounds a couple of days before my post-op visit. It might have come out earlier, but the adhesive on my wound could have hidden it.
The surgeon said that sometimes the body will push the thread out before it can dissolve. It is not something to worry about. She clipped the thread so it was next to the wound.
All looks good. I am allowed to add 10 more pounds a week after my 4th week after surgery. I am to continue avoiding using my core muscles for the next three weeks. She said, “Everything looks good, so I won’t need to see you again.”

Follow the doc’s orders and just keep getting better. 🙂

It is hard! With all this rain, my garden is growing like crazy and that includes the weeds. I want to get out and deal with them, but I still need to take it easy.

As nice as your garden is, YOU are more important right now, and that means taking it slow and healing properly. The garden can wait. 🙂

I love working in my garden, so this is a hard time for me. I just want to do so much.

It is so easy to overdo as I have had several experiences with that. 🙄

I am allowed to add 10 more pounds a week…
Silly me thought, at first, that this meant you could gain ten pounds of weight, not lift. I was going to ask for the name of that wonderful doctor who advises weight gain.

Unfortunately, all doctors seem to want me to lose the spare tire, not add weight. 😮💨
Bruce said, “You’ll be able to lift a hundred pounds soon.” 😆 There was a time my very skinny 90-pound body could lift a 100-pound sack of feed.🚜

I hurt myself trying to deal with those prolific garden weeds. I think you’ve been a bad influence on me. 😂
So happy for the good report! Keep being kind to yourself, and soon you’ll be back to weed-wrangling!

Weed safely! Bending over to pull up a weed can destroy your back or cause a fall. I want something to sit on beside the wet ground to pull up weeds.
With all the rain we’ve gotten, the weeds are out of control and I can only watch them grow.😆

Sadly I already hurt myself trying to back. I’m hoping that not weeding will help it get better. 🙄
Could you rent a goose or a goat?

You can check around. Some places in the country have goat rentals, but I have never heard of renting a goose.

Adoption? 😊

Might be your best option. 😆

That’s a great post-op report. I hope you will continue to moderate your activity and not start hauling dirt and bending over to pick up things. 😉 Have a lovely weekend.

Luckily, we’ve had so much rain this last week, I haven’t been able to even consider any bad for core muscles activities.

I have a feeling the doc was surprised at your notes. My husband takes notes like this about his cancer and health. He is very well read into the situation and will tell his doctors what he thinks and what he wants which has encouraged me to be more outspoken with those who know best.

Yes, she was. I hope my notes will help someone else.
It is good to be educated enough to understand what is going on. Your husband is smart to take notes and understand what the doctors want to do and the side effects. He can discuss his treatment options better.

Yes, his background as an analyst makes him really able to identify the pertinent and get rid of the rest. He is very good at that.

I hope so. My post-op instructions were lacking in so many ways.

It’s really hard, but it’s so important to allow adequate time for healing and not to overdo it after surgery.
