Butterflies and Blackberry Flowers

April 14, 2026

I didn’t do much for a few days except for the doctors’ appointments.

On Thursday (April 9), we took the car to the dealership for a recall for a ground wire on the transmission possibly not being connected. (By the way Rieko, we named the car Little Red Hood with the nickname of Little Red.) The dealership beat the recall letter and set up an appointment for us. We did get the recall letter on Monday.

The VW dealership in Florence, AL is great to work with. The service department determined the ground wire was connected and no further action was required. After service, the service manager, asked if we wanted our car washed. Of course, we did. The Little Red came out looking all shiny and brand-new.

After we got home, we walked to the back field to check on the fruit trees and bushes. My picture of a loaded blueberry bush didn’t turn out. At the raised beds, I took a picture of a Florida Pearl strawberry, which is a white strawberry.

You can see we mulch the strawberries with some of the pine chips Bruce chipped. (How much chips would Bruce chip? Bruce would chip as much wood as Bruce could chip if the wood was ready to chip.)

After looking at various plants, we put the tomato trellis in place. I planted the small tomato seedlings. Bruce bought some larger tomato plants that I also planted.

The peas are growing well. Bruce is ready for peas to eat. It will still be a while before he can scarf down peas.

The potatoes are peeking through the straw mulch.

After all the work in the vegetable garden, I rested for a bit and made supper.

After supper, we went outside to sit out on the front porch. I took a picture of the irises with the allium blooms floating above the irises’ leaves.

The sunset was a golden orange glow.
