Nox Is Not Feeling Well

We have an appointment with the veterinarian for Nox this afternoon.

Nox’s health has taken a turn for the worst.

Nox had developed a cough late last year. The vet prescribed medication to help the cough. She warned us that if the cough persisted, Nox was most likely having heart problems.

Since the medication didn’t work, we took Nox off it. The vet suggested two options, start her on heart medication right away or get a sonogram to see what was going on. We decided to get the sonogram first.

Nox’s second set of bloodwork showed the kidney health food wasn’t working, and the vet prescribed medication to help with the kidneys.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the vet’s office that does sonograms to call us back. We decided to start Nox on heart medication.

Nox has stopped eating. She won’t even take a treat and she always takes a treat. She started vomiting. She only has water and medicine in her stomach. Nox is also cold and is now shivering a lot. We have wrapped her in a towel like a burrito. She is lethargic. The only plus side is that she has stopped coughing.

Of course, this started happening while I was dealing with my own medical issues. It came on suddenly.

We want Nox to have the best quality of life we can provide. If that means taking her off the medications so she feels better, so be it.

At this rate, she is not going to last long, slowly starving to death. I hope taking her off her medications will help for a while. She is old for a dog, 17 years, and I know she might not be with us much longer. This thought is breaking my heart.

  2. I am so sorry to hear this. When our elderly 10 pound Yorkie Poo was in a steep decline, we talked to the vet about how to know if/when it was time to put her down. They said to think about her quality of life, and whether she was having more good than bad days. Eventually it became clear that she was suffering and failing, so it was time. It was hard but necessary. I am sure you will know what is the right course of action in Nox’s case and you have my prayers for all of you during this hard time.
