Condolences to you and Bruce. At least it did not drag out for a long time, and hopefully he was at peace with his family present.

Yes, we had hoped he would pass away in his sleep. Yesterday, he did appear to realize people were in the room with him. I like to think he recognized his family was there.

Thank you. I took several pictures of beautiful sunsets over Lake Guntersville in AL. It seemed fitting since he loved my pictures of sunsets.

Your sunset photo is a fitting metaphor. He crossed into the sunset to be with the ancestors now, a replication of all that has passed before any of us and will be after us. May you be blessed with peace as you move forward.

Julia, you and Bruce have our sympathies. I am so glad you encouraged Bruce to go when he did – and that he did. I remember the kind exchange that you and he had on your blog, and I felt it gave me a glimpse into your relationship with each other- one of love and respect. I hope memories are a comfort. Please know you both are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Betty, thank you for your sympathy and support. I have so many fond memories of my FIL.
I am so glad I encouraged Bruce to go when he did. Bruce planned to come home tomorrow and then all of us head back on Saturday so I could be with him for the viewing and funeral. Best laid plans, we have a brutal winter storm predicted starting Friday night lasting all day Saturday. If it was just snow, we might have tried it, but 1/2 of ice with snow on top is just not safe. I sent Bruce a text about the weather not realizing that he is not thinking straight enough to realize what it meant. It was only after he called me and I explained about the weather he realized the original plan wouldn’t work. I can’t fly with Nox and she is too old to try and board her. I am going to miss the funeral. I wanted to be there for Bruce, but there is no way.
Bruce told me, “I wish I had listened to you and brought my suit.” He was thinking he needed to buy another full suit. I told him to check and see what his brothers were planning on wearing. He might just need slacks, a dress shirt, shoes and a tie.
I do feel we have partnership based on friendship, love, trust, and respect. Like you and Dan, we enjoy doing things together.

Sometimes things happen, and our plans are not what we want. Safety is first. Julia, you will be there when Bruce comes home. He will need you then as he and you both deal with this loss.
