December 22, 2025
On Saturday (December 20), Bruce and I took the new car to Jekyll Island, GA to help out my father-in-law. He is doing so much better. He mostly needs to build his strength back up.
When we arrived, Nox was exited to see a Christmas tree.
On Sunday (December 21), Nox looked under the tree for her presents.

After Nox’s nap, she wanted to go outside.

Bruce and I walked down to the beach and back. Nox was carried in her backpack. We didn’t want to take any risk of Nox getting underfoot. She enjoys being near her Dog Grampa and we don’t want her to cause him to fall.
The weather is glorious here. Sunny and warm enough to enjoy, but not warm enough to get hot while walking. We walked along the edge of the sea, enjoying the shore birds and gulls.

I did some sketches to start thinking about a logo for Blackberry Homestead.

Today (Monday, December 22), I took my ideas and Bruce’s suggestion of a bumble bee to create a logo.

The bumble bee, grey streak butterfly, and blackberry leaves touch the rim and blackberry flowers. I did this because I want to find someone to make a metal cutout.
I have updated the website logo.

Nox is taking a nap as I get ready to post this. She is snoring away.

That is a pretty island! Looks like a good place to relax. Your logo is good, distinctive.

Thank you! It was fun to create. He is more mobile, but still has a way to go.

I love the logo! Can’t wait to see how it looks when you finalize and get the cutout–metal or wood? There is something about bees and a new home, but I can’t recall. Someone gave a gift that included bees around the hive to my friend, and told her what it represents. Great news also about how well Bruce’s dad is doing now. The beach view looks very peaceful–I would not mind being there myself right now. And of course, the Nox sequence was fun. I hope all is well with you and your families and wish you a Merry Christmas and a good year ahead!

Thank you! I am thinking metal right now. It is good news that he is doing so much better. I always think Nox is cute dog and love sharing pics of her.

I have pictures of Geordie napping under the tree waiting for Santa Paws too. Don’t worry, little one, he’ll come! 🎅🏻
(Love the new logo!)

She got one gift early from Tom (and Rieko), but now she is expecting Santa Paws to bring her something.

That new logo is the bee’s knees. It really does capture the spirit of your blog and the Homestead and will make a great metal sculpture to hang or wall mount. Poor Nox…in 7:1 dog years, Christmas is still like weeks away. Hope Santa is good to you all. Great news about your father-in-law and it looks like you are in a lovely place to enjoy holiday time.

Thank you! I enjoyed thinking about it and planning it out. I want to hang it from the mailbox.
Thank you! I hope Santa is good to you and Reiko.
It is good news that his wound is healing so well. He tires easily so we push him around (in a wheelchair) once he is tired.
It is a lovely spot and the weather is wonderful. The weather warmed up at home, but the Tennessee River doesn’t have a beach near us.
