Ladybugs Swarming the House

November 6, 2025

On November 4 (Tuesday), after the dew had dried, I told Bruce I was going to the garden to harvest basil. Bruce asked if he could help. I said yes, so Bruce joined me.

We cut the basil stems and placed them in a large bowl. We quickly filled up a large bowl with basil.

Once inside, I asked Bruce to fill the dehydrator trays with basil. He had fun pulling off the leaves and placing them in the dehydrator trays. Once the trays were full and stacked over the heating element, Bruce plugged the dehydrator in.

I processed the rest of the basil leaves in the food processor with olive oil. Once I saw the basil paste in the food processor, I decided it was too oily. I went out and harvested another large bowl of basil. I added the leaves to the bowl of the food processor. After processing the additional leaves of basil, I checked the paste. It looked good, so I scooped it into quart bags, wrote “Basil & Olive Oil 11/4/2025” on the bag label, and placed the bags flat in the freezer.

Being concerned about the colder weather promised over the coming weekend, I wanted to get the sweet potatoes out of the shed.

As I was walking to the house with a 5-gallon bucket of sweet potatoes, I noticed ladybugs swarming the house. It was interesting enough to stop and take some pictures. A few even landed on me.

From the shed, I brought in the rest of the sweet potatoes. I wrapped more of the sweet potatoes in paper.

I ran out of paper and left the rest of the sweet potato to be wrapped at a later date.

In walking around the front yard, I noticed a paperwhite blooming.

Bruce noticed the moon from the kitchen window. We went outside to see it better.

Yesterday (Wednesday November 5), in the morning, we walked around Blackberry Homestead.

The blueberries have red leaves.

I noticed the neighbor’s hickories are changing color.

I saw more ladybugs swarming the house. How do they know cold weather is coming?

Spots are ladybugs.

Nox did Nox things.

I had an appointment with my neurologist at 1:30 PM. He wants to switch up my medication. I am having more problems with nerve pain. We’ll see how it goes.

Once I got back home, I headed out to the garden. I harvested the last of the beets.

The hickories turned more yellow from 12:46 PM and 3:41 PM.

Side-by-side comparison, the photos are from slightly different angles.

The sunset was a pretty gold.

The moon was rising. It was later, so the moon was much brighter. My pictures didn’t come out very well.

      1. It did feel like plague proportions! They landed on me and my husband as we were walking around. It was hard not to swat at them.

The majority of them seem to have finished swarming.
