Back to Blackberry Homestead Days

November 2, 2025

On October 24 (Friday), I stopped to look at the red pineapple.

I noticed some damage to one of purple basil plants. There was a minor windstorm the night before.

The Japanese mustard, radishes, and garlic looked good.

I need to mulch the garlic.

Some sweet potato vines are still growing under the tomatoes.

I even found a watermelon. Will it get ripe before the first frost?

On October 25 (Saturday), I saw a Dusted Skipper butterfly and bumblebees on the basil flowers.

On October 26 (Sunday), Bruce headed out to help his dad. https://retirementrvdream.com/2025/10/28/bruce-heading-out-to-take-care-of-my-father-in-law/

After Bruce headed out, I did some gardening. I harvested the okra, cherry tmatoes, and tomatillos.

Starting the Harvest

I loved the reflections in the bowl.

I roasted the tomatillos, peppers from the garden, cloves of garlic, and sliced onion. Once everything was roasted, I started a pot of green chili on the stovetop. While the chili simmered, I went out and harvested a sinkfull of basil.

I made two quarts of pesto and put them in the freezer. The all-purple basil pesto had a purple-gray color that wasn’t the most appealing. I had hoped it would be a more purple color like the basil. It tasted great though.

I filled up the food dehydrator with purple basil leaves and plugged it in.

The red pineapple continues to bloom.

Our neighbor to the north, moved his chicken tractor closer to our property. Nox likes being picked up so she can “see” the chickens.

It was overcast at sunset.

It started raining that night.
