A Tour of Tennessee Amish Country

October 15, 2025

On Wednesday (October 8), Bruce drove Cliff the Big Red Truck to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to Dunkin’s Market. We met up with our new friends there.

I had exchanged texts with J the day before about their trip to Hawaii and how she was craving muscadines. She called around to find who was still selling muscadines. Since Dunkin’s Market was selling the last of the season’s muscadines, J texted me to ask if we’d like to meet them there and then go on a tour of the Amish country. I thought that sounded fun, so I asked Bruce. Bruce thought it sounded fun.

Bruce drove the back foods to Lawrenceburg, until we got to US 43.

Outside, Dunkin’s Market had a lot of different winter squash and pumpkins.

Inside, they had goat cheese, sausages, and produce. We bought three different kinds of goat cheese and two bottles of muscadine juice.

We drove ten minutes to the Amish Welcome Center in Ethridge, TN and signed up for a wagon tour. Taking pictures and videos was not allowed, so I don’t have any pictures of our wagon tour.

We visited several Amish properties. Some had shops, selling baskets and furniture. Others had outdoor stands selling produce and baked goods. A few sold homemade candies. We passed an Amish sawmill and a couple of schoolhouses.

The tour guide talked about how the Amish lived. They have several one-room schoolhouses spread throughout Amish country to allow the children to walk to school.

The tour took a couple of hours.

After the tour, we discussed where to eat lunch and decided to eat at Hinie’s BBQ. The food was good BBQ.

J and T had to eat and run. They needed to get back home to take their daughter to a tennis lesson.

After we finished eating, Bruce drove to Florence, AL using US 43.

We picked up my framed dragonfly artwork.

When we got home, we walked into an ant invasion. Ants came in through a gap in the sliding glass door and discovered the dog food. It wasn’t just two lines of ants but a row of ants about an inch to an inch and half wide marching to and from the dog food. Nox was in her crate, sleeping about four feet from the foraging ants.

We sprayed the ants with cleaner and wiped them up. After removing the ants, I mopped. I put Borax into the gap where the ants entered. No more ants entered by the end of the next day.

The sunset was gorgeous!

Overall, we had a fun and relaxing day, even if the ant invasion was an unpleasant surprise.

    1. It was fun to visit. I wish I could’ve taken pictures of the tour. I loved seeing the children running around and peering at us from the barns and houses. It made me think, “We are strangers in a strange land.”
