More Birdie’s Garden Beds and a Chipper Arrive

June 14, 2025

On June 5 (Thursday), Bruce was expecting two deliveries, large size Birdie’s Garden Beds and the chipper. We were both very excited earlier in the week to get the emails with the information about the deliveries.

I had PT scheduled for the day of the deliveries, so I left Bruce at home and drove myself to PT. Bruce normally drives me, goes off and does Bruce things, then we try a restaurant for lunch.

After PT, I texted Bruce that I was heading home. Bruce texted back where I should park when I got home so the truck would be out of the way. I drove Cliff the Big Red Truck home.

When I arrived home, the FedEx truck was backed up to the garage. I pulled the truck beside the driveway near the garage, so the truck wasn’t in the way. Bruce and the FedEx driver were almost done unloading the Birdie’s Garden Beds.

I parked the truck and walked over to the garage. It was very exciting to see the boxes. The FedEx driver waved as he got into the front of his truck and drove away. He also delivered an American persimmon tree variety, Caramel Cocktail.

Birdie’s Garden Beds Boxes

As I was admiring the boxes of Birdie’s Garden Beds, the truck driver carrying our chipper called. He was a short distance away. The driver told Bruce he was driving a semi. Bruce warned the driver he should look at the driveway before trying to turn in.

The driver parked his semi just past the driveway, with half the truck on the shoulder and half in the road. The chipper weights 310 pounds, so the driver had a suggestion to get the chipper up to the house. The driver suggested Bruce back our truck up to the back of the lift. The diver would transfer the chipper to the bed of our truck.

So, that’s what we did. It worked great! The driver rode in the bed of our truck up to the house. Bruce backed our truck up to the garage. Between Bruce and the truck driver, they got the chipper unloaded.

Bruce offered to drive the driver to his truck, but the driver said the walk would do him good. The driver walked down the driveway and was pulling away before we knew it.

Chipper Unloaded

We were excited to see the chipper. We started unboxing it and putting it together. The instructions were minimal and left out many things.

Fortunately, it was easy to see how it should go together. In helping put the chipper together, I managed to slip and fall onto the metal sides of the open box when I tried to sit down. I developed a nasty looking bruise across my backside.

As we didn’t have a gas can, we didn’t have a way to put gasoline in the chipper. Bruce put the chipper inside the garage and we called it a day.

  1. What a day! I’m glad things worked out mostly OK. Will you be making homemade mulch with your new chipper?

(I hear the bees are complaining that there are no “human bum” pictures to show off that bruise! 🤣). (JK)

    1. Yes, we expect to be able to process the smaller branches from the downed trees into wood chips. We’ll use the wood chips for mulch and to give to our neighbor who gave us the composted cow manure. He can use the wood chips for cow bedding.
