On Saturday (April 5), Bruce noticed a fairly long rat snake (a little over 4 feet) near the garage. It was coming into our yard from our neighbor’s pasture. Bruce was mowing at the time when he first spotted the snake. When Bruce brought in two of the mower batteries to be charged, he mentioned the snake to me.
After Bruce was done mowing for the day, he put away the mower and walked around the yard to see if he could spot the snake. The snake was on the front porch. Bruce came in and told me about the snake.
I went out the front door to see the snake.

Bruce followed the snake as it slowly moved off our porch. He took a lot of pictures and even video of the snake. According to Bruce, it tried to figure out how to get under our house, but couldn’t. It then tried to “talk” to the water hose. I am not sure what Bruce meant by that and I don’t want to know.
Once the snake was away from the house, the mocking birds were unhappy. They flew at Bruce and the snake. The snake made it over to our neighbors’ on the south side of Blackberry Homestead.
Bruce stopped tracking it at that time.
We have a black snake in the neighborhood, but I haven’t seen it yet this year.

Maybe it’s still hibernating?

Probably. It has been cold here.

It warmed up here for a while, but we had a freeze warning earlier this week.

Do snakes eat rabbits? If so, could I have yours?

Yes, they do!

I’ve been hoping a snake would come here, but they aren’t very common. ☹️. Enjoy the good work yours does!

Yes, the snake can eat all the rats, mice and rabbits to my happiness. 👋🐀🐭🐇

Are any of the snakes poisonous?

We do have poisonous snakes in the area, but we haven’t seen any. We were warned that the dry weather we had last summer was bringing out the rattlesnakes.

I remember when we lived in Bon Secour, Al and I used to walk near the water at night. I was warned about water moccasins and the smell of watermelons.

We also have water moccasins in the area, but it doesn’t sound like they are common here.

That would really freak my out, but sounds like the snake was just passing through and not hanging around your yard. (PS I am waaay behind on reading blog posts again).

That happens. I get behind reading blogs sometimes as I get really busy with all I am trying to get accomplished.
I was a little freaked out.
