On July 14, we headed up to U.S. Hwy 50 from Blackberry Homestead in North Alabama. On the way to historic Hwy 50, we took the famous historic Route 66 for a very short distance. While Route 66 might be decommissioned, there are signs for the historic Route 66 sections that remain as other roads. Hwy 50 is still an active highway.
I didn’t take many pictures. Anytime I tried to use my iPhone for something other than the mapping software, it killed the music being streamed to the car speakers by Bruce’s Android phone. Bruce was connected to the car through the Bluetooth. I did manage to snap a few pictures.

We passed this road cut just past Linn.
We stopped for the night at an old renovated hotel. It was once considered the most luxurious hotel in mid-Missouri.

After dark, we retrieved some forgotten items from the car. We got to see the hotel sign lit up as it would’ve been in 1927.
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The dining room was a beautiful restoration of the original hotel’s dining room. I loved the tile. The food and service were excellent.
In the morning, we rode on the 99-year-old elevator; it required an elevator operator to operate. The desk crew takes turns being the elevator operator. It was another taste of history the hotel provides.
Hotel Bothwell does a great job of providing modern amenities in a historic building, along with excellent service.
While we didn’t stay long in Sedalia, Missouri, we did walk around in the morning. The downtown was well preserved or restored, with fun touches.
On July 15, we drove back to Hwy 50 and continued on our way to Colorado. The trip continues in the next post.
