Big Storm Last Night, We have a Leaky Roof

November 14, 2024

When I went to the kitchen this morning, I discovered a puddle on the stovetop.

It wasn’t there last night. The stovetop was beautifully clean when I went to bed.

I could trace where the water came down from the top of the upper cabinet. It ran down the cabinet doors, over the hood and onto the stovetop.

I could see water damage. Ugh!

I also found water damage on the ceiling in the pink bathroom.

I called Bruce to share the bad news. Bruce and I talked. He wanted me to go outside to see if I could spot any major damage from wind. (We had a lot of wind with the rain last night.)

I didn’t see anything major, so I used my list of contacts from Donna Brown (our buyer’s real estate agent) to find a roofer.

The roofer was already out this way, so he was able to stop by shortly after I talked to Linda (the office manager).

He said the we have problems with the two fields of shingles. He could see a line of rusty nails down where the leaks are, which means a two sets (fields) of shingles are bad.

I’ll be getting a quote for a roof repair and for a new roof. We knew the roof was not in the best of shape, but the leaks are new.

We had some branches down in the back pasture. There are some branches down on top of the fence on the wooded side of the wooded side of the property. I still feel the urgency to get the fence repaired from when I was a kid. A problem with a fence was a big deal on a dairy farm. The wooded side doesn’t have animals, so it isn’t a big deal. I have to remind myself of that.

On the way to the kitchen this morning, I noticed the barn door had blown open. That door is heavy and hard to move.

I also noticed the far barn door was just a bit open. We hadn’t been able to get that door open at all.

Far Barn Door

What a storm!!!
