Stop at the Post Office and onto Blackberry Homestead

October 7, 2024

After buying the refrigerator, we headed to the Muscle Shoals post office to pick up our held mail and to let the post office know the mailbox is now the correct height.

We drove to Blackberry Homestead and parked in the garage.

I cleaned the pink bathtub and pink sink in the pink bathroom. The plumbers had stood in the tub and the master shower with dirty boots. The tub and shower were filthy. The pink sink needed cleaning as well. After I finished cleaning the pink bathroom tub and sink, I cleaned the shower and sink in the master suite.

We looked at the tadpoles in the half plastic barrel. Bruce went back to the house, while I proceeded to battle the dread poison ivy. I pulled poison ivy for two hours today.

While I was battling the poison ivy, Bruce went into the crawl space to see the situation with the waterline to the refrigerator.

At two hours Bruce came to see if I was ready to quit. I had filled up the large black trash bag with poison ivy. I tied the open end of garbage bag closed and lugged the bag to a trash can. When I tossed the trash bag full of poison ivy into one of the large trash cans, I got a face full of plaster dust. Just ugh!

I washed up and cleaned my glasses.

When I close my eyes, I see poison ivy. It is a rather pretty plant, but I know the pain that lurks within!

    1. Well, we have 5 acres. I’d say a good acre has poison ivy running through it. I expect to get 4 more large black garbage bags of poison ivy. That’s 4 to 6 hours per garbage bag.

  1. Certainly poison ivy is pretty – especially early in the season with the new leaves, and in the fall when they turn red. Although maybe they don’t, in your new climate? And the berries are nice, too. But I’m extremely sensitive, and itching just looking at your photos!

    1. The leaves do turn red in the fall here; they do look beautiful. The berries are pretty as well. Bruce and I have rashes from the poison ivy which is what we get for not being covered up enough.

      1. Oh, Nox’s super power is to discover poison ivy and get into it. She will walk right up to the poison ivy and sniff it, then walk so she brushes into it. I don’t know how many times we’ve had to wash her because she found poison ivy. I got so I was always on the lookout for poison ivy so I could tell Bruce to keep Nox out of the poison ivy. Fortunately, the backyard doesn’t have any poison ivy, but the back pasture is full of it. We aren’t allowing Nox into the back pasture, as we know she’ll find poison ivy to get all over her.
