House Buying – Moving Items from RV to House

September 13, 2024

Yesterday, I spent over an hour and a half on the phone with the insurance company. After I got home owner’s insurance, I got a new policy for the motorcycle and a new Alabama policy for the truck and RV.

After that, we loaded up the truck with items from the RV that we don’t plan to use during our trip to the Riverstone factory in Indiana.

We dropped off one load and called it good enough.

Today, we dropped off three truck loads of various items at the house.

After moving the first truck load into the house, we drove to Colbert County Water department to get our water moved to us. It was a $50 fee. Google maps, bless its heart, took us to the back side of the water company instead of the front. This meant we had to walk over sopping wet grass to get to the front door.

Once the $50 feet was paid to the utility company, we headed to the lawyer’s office to pick up our deed.

On the second load, we also brought Nox to see the house. She was getting nervous from all the strange things we were doing.

Nox seemed to enjoy exploring. We kept an eye on her to make sure she didn’t jump down any steps.

With so much of our stuff moved to the house, it is starting to sink in the house is ours.

  1. I’ve never seen teal appliances before. I like them! Nox is going to be so happy there. Heck, you all are! You house has a lot of charm already, and I know you are going to fix it up to be beautiful. Congratulations!

      1. Once, we found a house that had beef decorated in 1976 with unique results. The bi-centennial celebration wall paper was everywhere! They also had blue appliances instead of avocado green, brown or harvest gold. I can close my eyes today and still see that house.

  2. Julia, Welcome home!!! GE used to say (maybe they still do) that “Progress Is Our Most Important Product” – it sounds like your motto too! Love, Howard

    1. It was recently remodeled, with new windows, wood floors refinished, new cabinets, new doors, etc. We still have some items to deal with, but overall, it seems to be a good purchase.

    1. It can take months to find a house to buy. It took us about 2 weeks to find a house we liked.

Once you’ve found the house, it takes about a few days to make an offer and then a consider the buyers counter offer. If you need a mortgage, it will take a month to close on the house. Lenders tend to take a while and require more money for fees. We had enough cash from selling our previous house to buy this house with cash. A cash closing can be done in two weeks. You just have to get on the lawyer’s schedule.
