On July 14, we were walking in the Tin Cup Park. I was trying to get an artistic picture of curly dock/yellow dock seeds. They are a dark brown in amongst the greens, light browns and tans.

A bit further on the trail, I saw a flash of yellow out of the corner of my eye. I first thought it was a tiger swallowtail butterfly.
I turned to look at the yellow and realized it was a lesser goldfinch. I got Bruce’s attention and pointed to the bird. Bruce spotted him as well.
I started snapping pictures of the lesser goldfinch eating seeds from the thistles. I got several pictures. Bruce was carrying Nox. He put her down and started to take a picture and much to his disappointment, the bird took wing. Bruce wasn’t able to get a picture.

I saw several goldfinches around the sunflowers today. It must be the day for yellow!

I love seeing goldfinches and lesser goldfinches. The lesser goldfinches are so small and cute.

I like their songs. They sound like a guilty boyfriend pleading “Sweetheart! Sweetheart!”

Haha! I hadn’t thought about that!
My favorite bird songs are the whippoorwill and the meadow lark.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a meadow lark. Maybe someday…

They have a flute like song. It is very distinctive and beautiful.
