First Day of Travel to Golden, Colorado from Jekyll Island, Georgia

June 5, 2024

As we left Jekyll Island on May 15, I saw a Bald Eagle perched on a power pole. Unfortunately, the picture didn’t come out.

We headed east on the causeway from Jekyll Island, I managed to get a picture of a Turrapin Xing sign.

We were on Jekyll Island during sea turtle egg laying season. The turtles sometimes cross the causeway during egg laying season. Turrapin Xing signs are put up where the turtles cross the road. We saw one turtle on the road and the turtle rescue van on the way to rescue the turtle.

We saw a large container ship in port as we drove past.

We took the exit to get onto I-95 N towards Savanna, Georgia. At Savanna, we picked up I-16 W.

I enjoyed seeing the waterlilies blooming in the wet areas next to the interstate.

Nox slept while we were moving.

Nox woke up once we stopped at a rest area.

There was a lot of road construction or destruction going on.

Work at Macon, Georgia

We took I-75 N, then I-285 W around Atlanta, Georgia. We picked up I-75N towards Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It was getting late, so I found us a campground near Exit 1 in Tennessee. The campground was just in Georgia, so we didn’t get our Tennessee state sticker.

We pulled into Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga after 439 miles. The office had left information for late arrivals. We left the truck and RV and walked over to see the campsites. Bruce had me wait at the campsite in case someone else came in, I could tell them the spot was taken.

The campsite was narrow, with a concrete pad that was about 6 inches tall on the camping side.

Since we weren’t going to disconnect the truck and RV, we pulled into the site with the truck pulled as far as it would go without sticking into the road. We started to set up only to find our steps went to the concrete pad. Since the pad was 6 inches high, the top of the steps came up so high, the RV door wouldn’t close.

I hooked one of the ratchet straps around the bottom step and tried to pull the steps up. After my failure, Bruce easily pulled the steps up by the strap.

Steps Pulled Up

Nox was very curious about the steps. She had never seen them inside. She spent some time sniffing them and looking at them.

We got a good nights sleep and early the next morning, it was time to get ready to leave.
